Job description
About Wolt
Wolt builds technology that makes local commerce easier, more enjoyable, and more rewarding for neighborhoods around the world. Founded in 2014 with restaurant food delivery, the company has expanded into delivering almost everything and now operates in more than 500 cities across 30 countries. In 2022, Wolt joined DoorDash, and together they continue to grow internationally.
Working at Wolt is fast-paced and demanding, but it is also highly energizing. Team members are encouraged to learn quickly, take on more responsibility, and deliver meaningful work. The environment suits people who are self-driven, ambitious, and motivated by entrepreneurship.
As part of Wolt’s New Verticals business, the company develops a broad set of technologies, including retail and merchant tools, advertising and growth products, fulfillment and last-mile delivery solutions, and financial services. Wolt also runs grocery stores under the Wolt Market brand. Because the business operates across more than 30 countries and continues to expand, the legal team handles a wide range of complex issues.
Role overview
Wolt is hiring a generalist Legal Counsel for its Berlin-based Legal team. The role is focused on supporting Germany, along with other European markets, and centers on commercial law, regulatory matters, and additional industry-related legal topics. You will be part of a global legal organization and work closely with legal colleagues at DoorDash and Deliveroo to exchange knowledge and align ways of working.
What you will do
- Partner with the Director Legal Germany to identify legal risks early and help manage them across the business.
- Provide practical and clear legal guidance to business teams on a broad mix of commercial and operational matters.
- Act as a go-to contact for legal questions from stakeholders across multiple functions, offering timely and solution-focused support.
- Prepare, review, and negotiate different commercial contracts while balancing business goals and legal risk.
- Work closely with teams such as Marketing, Retail, Sales, and other business units to address their legal needs and support growth.
- Coordinate with international legal peers at DoorDash and Deliveroo to maintain consistency in legal approaches, processes, and initiatives across regions.
- Improve legal templates, workflows, and internal processes to make legal support more efficient and scalable.
- Support strategic projects, including compliance-related work, so the business can move quickly while remaining legally sound and informed.
What we are looking for
- You are a fully qualified German lawyer, having completed both the First and Second State Exams, with at least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Some prior in-house experience is preferred.
- You have strong expertise in commercial law and can independently advise on a broad range of business-critical matters.
- You are comfortable using AI tools in a thoughtful and responsible way to strengthen legal analysis, improve efficiency, and support decision-making.
- You have a strong track record of working across functions and collaborating with teams such as Marketing, Retail, and Sales to develop practical solutions.
- You communicate confidently in both German and English, in writing and verbally; Polish language ability would be an advantage.
- You work in a structured, pragmatic way, can handle several priorities at once, remain composed under pressure, and adapt quickly to new topics.
- You bring a cooperative, approachable attitude, solid stakeholder management skills, and a willingness to take ownership and keep developing in the role.
What the role offers
This is an individual contributor position where you are trusted to own your work and independently handle legal matters within your area of responsibility. The company is looking for someone with strong commercial and regulatory legal expertise, along with curiosity, learning agility, and enthusiasm for helping build something new. You will collaborate with a broad set of stakeholders, including global and local commercial and operations teams, and report to the Director Legal Germany. The position is based in Berlin.
Compensation and benefits
Wolt offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Additional benefits mentioned for this role include the opportunity to help build something exceptional in an international environment, strong learning and growth opportunities in a globally scaling tech company, and a hybrid work model that combines office presence with flexibility.
Diversity and inclusion
Wolt is committed to building a more inclusive community within the company, the industry, and the cities it serves. The company values teams made up of people with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives, and believes innovation is strongest when everyone has the chance to contribute and grow.
