Role overview
A well-known internet company is looking for a contract Legal Compliance Specialist through The Mom Project. This position supports both the legal operations function and the regulatory compliance team and is fully remote within the United States.
Working arrangement
This is a full-time contract role with a 40-hour workweek. The role can be performed entirely remotely from anywhere in the U.S.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee legal email inboxes, review incoming correspondence, and route messages in line with legal mail handling procedures.
- Receive, evaluate, and help draft replies to consumer complaints submitted to the FCC or state attorney general offices.
- Log litigation matters and claims, then manage and track associated legal deadlines on the calendar.
- Check outside counsel invoices against billing standards and determine whether they should be approved or declined.
- Handle business license setup and renewals for both new and ongoing markets.
- Maintain and correct contact and account records with federal, state, and local agencies to assist with regulatory filings and licensing.
Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or an equivalent mix of relevant knowledge and professional experience.
- At least 2 to 3 years of in-house experience supporting a legal team in litigation support, regulatory compliance, or legal operations.
- Excellent organization and time-management abilities.
- Comfort managing several priorities at once across different legal workstreams.
Preferred background
- Paralegal training or an equivalent credential.
- Prior exposure to SimpleLegal (Onit) or comparable legal billing tools.
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace tools such as Gmail, Sheets, and Calendar.
- Experience in regulatory compliance work.
- Background in broadband, telecommunications, cable, construction, or information/entertainment industries is a plus.
