Role overview

Kennedys is hiring a Legal Biller to join its Financial Operations function in Chelmsford. This position sits within the Working Capital team and works closely with the Cashiering and Finance Database teams to deliver a responsive billing and support service across the firm. The role focuses on revenue support, invoice preparation, and distributing bills accurately and on time.

About the finance team

The firm’s finance function provides global support by producing accurate financial and management information, delivering reporting solutions, and offering operational support that helps maintain a high level of service for both internal and external clients.

The broader finance structure includes Financial Control, Financial Planning and Reporting, Management Accountants, Working Capital, Legal Cashiers, and Financial Operations Database teams. The UK finance team operates from Chelmsford and London and has a presence across eight global offices.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop strong working relationships with important internal stakeholders.
  • Manage the billing process for several fee-earning teams.
  • Arrange and participate in regular discussions with fee earners and partners regarding aged work in progress and proposed billing.
  • Make sure fee earners follow detailed time recording policies and that all disbursements are recorded to support accurate defence costs management information.
  • Review billing rates and confirm they align with client service level agreements.
  • Work with the Financial Operations Database team to keep the billing system complete and current in accordance with active SLAs.

Experience required

The ideal candidate will have prior experience in legal billing, strong knowledge of VAT, and hands-on experience using Excel and finance systems. Experience with Elite 3E is desirable but not mandatory.
