About Cork City Council

Cork City Council is currently inviting qualified individuals to apply for inclusion on a panel used to fill temporary and permanent Legal Assistant positions.

Role Overview

The Legal Assistant position encompasses work in multiple key service sectors, which may include:

  • Conveyancing tasks such as leases, disposals, affordable housing schemes, title rectifications, registering charges, and removal of burdens.
  • Litigation activities including debt collections, housing-related issues, planning enforcement, and prosecutions tied to parking, litter, waste management, street bye-laws, and street furniture offenses.

Under the guidance of a Senior Staff Officer, candidates must demonstrate proficiency and skill in:

  • Effective communication and collaboration with colleagues, managers, and clients.
  • Building and maintaining productive relationships with colleagues, external bodies, and public officials.
  • Enhancing service delivery by utilizing relevant performance indicators.
  • Performing any similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must have achieved a good general education standard and have a minimum of three years' experience as a clerk in a solicitor's office working in litigation, conveyancing, or other legal areas.

Preferred Skills and Attributes

  • Demonstrated capability in delivering quality work and services, effective communication, identifying problems, and offering solutions.
  • Familiarity with Irish legal terminology, court structures, and legal procedures; a legal qualification is advantageous but not required.
  • Significant professional experience in legal environments focusing on conveyancing or litigation, or regulatory work.
  • Strong organizational talents, meticulous attention to detail, and consistent success in meeting deadlines.
  • Core competencies including excellent communication, multitasking, time management, and teamwork abilities.
