Role Overview

The Learning Mentor plays a vital role in supporting students with autism and complex Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) by offering tailored and consistent help aimed at enhancing their educational experience, confidence, independence, and emotional health.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pupils in engaging with educational content while fostering their social, emotional, and behavioral development
  • Serve as a positive role model and establish trustworthy relationships with pupils
  • Prepare educational materials and support both classroom and hands-on learning activities
  • Work closely with teaching staff and multidisciplinary teams to apply therapeutic, student-centered strategies
  • Facilitate communication, social interaction skills, and emotional self-regulation among students
  • Promote active participation in learning and overall well-being
  • Keep detailed records of student progress and offer constructive feedback

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possess GCSE qualifications in English and Mathematics or an equivalent certification
  • Prior experience in SEND environments, ideally with autistic pupils
  • Demonstrate resilience, empathy, and a proactive approach
  • Exhibit a strong dedication to maintaining professional standards and lifelong learning
