Job description

Position overview

This role is a full-time ongoing opportunity or a fixed-term full-time appointment for 12 months, with a chance of becoming permanent.

Role summary

The successful applicant will lead and assist with a customer-focused, efficient service across orderly, cleaning, catering, and laundry functions for Derby Health Services.

About the organisation

WA Country Health Service is the largest country health system in Australia and one of the biggest rural health networks in the world. It delivers healthcare to around half a million people, including about 45,000 Aboriginal people, across a vast area of roughly two and a half million square kilometres. The organisation operates across seven regions and supports public hospitals, health services, and health centres throughout rural and remote Western Australia.

Commitment to diversity and inclusion

WA Health is dedicated to removing discrimination from service delivery and values a diverse workforce. Applications are strongly encouraged from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally diverse communities, people with disabilities, women, youth aged 24 and under, and others with varied backgrounds and experience.

The organisation also supports flexible working arrangements where compatible with delivering quality health services and maintains a smoke-free environment across all buildings, grounds, and vehicles.

Eligibility and appointment conditions

For fixed-term appointments, applicants must hold a valid working visa. For permanent appointments, candidates must be an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a visa that allows them to live and work in Australia indefinitely.

Appointment is subject to criminal record screening, integrity checking, and, where relevant, a Working With Children Check. A pre-employment health assessment is also required, and any offer is conditional on a satisfactory outcome. Referees may be asked to comment on integrity and ethical conduct. Adverse information will not automatically exclude an applicant, but it will be taken into account during assessment.

This recruitment is also subject to a Western Australian Working With Children check, and the appointment depends on passing the required pre-employment health assessment. If the assessment is not satisfactory, any offer may be withdrawn.

The selection process may be used to appoint the current vacancy as well as similar roles elsewhere in the health service for up to 12 months after the recruitment decision is approved. If the selected candidate declines the offer or later leaves the role, another suitable applicant may be chosen from this process.

Benefits

In addition to salary, the role may include a range of employment benefits depending on operational needs, such as employer superannuation contributions, salary packaging, professional development support, study leave or assistance, flexible working arrangements, flexible leave options, and other professional or location-based allowances.

Application guidance

Applicants should apply online and prepare a statement addressing the selection criteria, limited to 2 to 3 pages, along with a detailed curriculum vitae that outlines relevant experience and shows how they meet the role requirements. All documents should be ready before starting the online application, as the process includes questions and attachment uploads.

Applications submitted at or after 4:00 pm will not be accepted. Late applications and email submissions will not be considered.

For job-related enquiries, contact Alan Rasmusen on 08 9193 3356. If online application issues arise, Employee Services can be contacted on 13 44 77 during business hours.
