Leadership Corps Cadet (Grades: 6-8)

Role Overview

The Dallas Independent School District is hiring a Leadership Corps Cadet teacher for grades 6 through 8 at the middle school level. This role focuses on delivering the Leadership Corps Cadet curriculum, building cadet development, and supporting the full range of instructional, leadership, and extracurricular activities connected to the program.

Key Duties

• Carry out the district’s Leadership Corps Cadet curriculum and program standards.
• Oversee the unit’s property budget and manage fundraising controls.
• Attend all required and scheduled meetings.
• Train and guide the color guard, rifle teams, drill teams, and related groups.
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise co-curricular service-learning activities, special events, and extracurricular programs such as military ball, drill meets, honor guards, encampments, and similar functions.
• Measure student progress and development through both formal and informal assessment methods.
• Use assessment results to choose learning materials and instructional strategies that meet student needs.
• Align lesson plans, curriculum activities, and learning goals with other subject areas to support transfer of knowledge.
• Recruit students into the Leadership Corps Cadet program and work to meet or exceed enrollment targets.
• Receive, secure, store, issue, and account for all property assigned to the school.
• Apply strong knowledge of administrative procedures and supply operations.
• Take part in all activities directed by the Office of the Director of Army Instruction.
• Support the public affairs effort involving the school, district, community, and civic organizations to strengthen understanding of the program’s mission.
• Create thematic units and projects that encourage extended engagement and creativity.
• Teach 180 hours of character development content in classroom and lab settings.

Work Environment

The work setting is generally moderately noisy. Travel across the district is a regular part of the position. This is a campus-based role, so remote work or alternate work arrangements are not available because consistent on-site attendance is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with the appropriate subject and grade-level endorsements.
• Certified Physical Education Teacher.
• Military certification as a JROTC instructor is preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills for working with the Office of the Director of Army Instruction, DAI staff, students, parents, teachers, and school administrators.

Additional Information

This position is based at Young Men’s Leadership Academy at Fred F. Florence MS. The school assignment is Teacher-ROTC MS and the schedule is full-time.
