Job description

Role Overview

The Laundry Worker supports the Laundry Services team at Yarmouth Regional Hospital in the Western Zone. This permanent hourly full-time position is responsible for helping keep laundry and linen operations running safely, smoothly, and in line with department rules, applicable regulations, and workplace standards.

The role focuses on handling both soiled and clean linen flow so that customers receive safe, sanitary, and appropriately supplied products. The work must be performed professionally and in a way that supports the wider mission and objectives of Nova Scotia Health.

Key Duties

  • Operate laundry department equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Follow established standards, regulations, and internal policies while carrying out daily tasks.
  • Process soiled and clean laundry and linen items continuously to maintain service flow.
  • Ensure laundry customers receive clean, safe, and properly quantified supplies.
  • Work in a professional manner aligned with the goals of Nova Scotia Health.

Required Background

Applicants should have a Grade 12 diploma or GED, or equivalent relevant work experience. A working understanding of infection prevention practices is required, along with completion of WHMS training. Candidates should also be familiar with infection control rules as they apply to industrial laundry work. Ability in additional languages is considered an asset, with French preferred.

Schedule and Employment Details

This is a permanent full-time unionized support position, working 75 hours every two weeks. Shifts can include days, nights, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this role is between $20.74 and $21.56. Eligible employees may receive a benefits package that includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, plus access to a defined benefit pension plan.
