Role summary

This full-time onsite position in Gaborone is for a Land Use Planner who will shape and put into action land-use plans and policies. The role includes supporting comprehensive planning activities, addressing environmental and regional planning matters, and working closely with stakeholders to guide sustainable land development.

Key duties

• Develop and implement land-use plans and related policy frameworks.
• Carry out broad planning exercises tied to urban, regional, and environmental considerations.
• Review geographical and demographic information to inform planning decisions.
• Prepare clear reports and planning documentation.
• Engage with stakeholders and support collaborative planning outcomes.
• Advise on sustainable and strategically aligned land-use development.

Qualifications and skills

The ideal candidate should have strong capability in land use planning, comprehensive planning, regional planning, and environmental planning. The role also calls for analytical ability, report writing, and confident stakeholder communication. Candidates must be able to design sustainable urban and rural development approaches and bring strong problem-solving, organization, and communication skills.

Education and experience

A bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications and prior experience in land-use planning or similar work will be considered an added advantage.
