Role Overview

As a Land Surveyor at AECOM, you will work closely with the Resident Engineer to carry out precise survey tasks critical to project success. Your responsibilities will include interpreting contract documents and technical drawings, establishing control points, conducting measurements, and maintaining meticulous records. You will coordinate with various stakeholders to verify accuracy, monitor contractor work, ensure compliance with project specifications, and uphold safety and quality standards on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Study and interpret contract packages, detailed drawings, specifications, and health and safety protocols, including updates.
  • Conduct survey operations as directed by the Resident Engineer.
  • Develop new data from photogrammetric sources and establish primary horizontal and vertical control points with reference ties for field re-establishment.
  • Accurately document measurements, rod readings, and calculations in field books as work progresses.
  • Verify the precision of survey data, including measurements and calculations performed on-site.
  • Coordinate scheduling and priorities with the contractor’s surveyor.
  • Ensure accuracy through traverse closures and benchmark circuits.
  • Report discrepancies or technical issues to the team leader.
  • Participate in joint measurements for completed work or payment verification.
  • Validate that completed work conforms to required lines and grades in collaboration with assigned inspectors.
  • Regularly check contractor setting out for proper execution and precision.
  • Maintain and calibrate survey equipment consistently.
  • Keep detailed notes, records, and sketches certifying performed work.
  • Collaborate with engineering, architectural teams, clients, and other stakeholders to coordinate findings.
  • Calculate terrain features such as heights, depths, relative positions, and property lines.
  • Oversee preparation of maps, charts, plots, reports, and legal survey descriptions.
  • Plan and execute ground surveys to establish baselines, elevations, and geodetic measurements.
  • Implement all site safety protocols, quality control, and monitoring procedures.
  • Monitor health and safety during construction activities and report any violations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Land Surveying, or a related field.
  • A minimum of six years’ experience in surveying roles.

Required Skills and Attributes

  • Proficiency with CAD software, survey specialized software, total stations, data collectors, and GPS technology.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to work independently.
  • Effective oral and written communication abilities.
  • Capable of logically and clearly interacting with management and team members.
  • Physical capability to undertake demanding fieldwork.
  • Commitment to adhering to safe work practices.
