Job description
Role Summary
A refinery-focused industrial employer in Tanzania is looking for a careful and capable Laboratory Technician to take charge of routine laboratory work. The position is based in Bagamoyo, Kerege, and centers on testing, quality control, accurate recordkeeping, and support for production and quality teams to help maintain consistent product standards.
Key Duties
- Carry out physical and chemical tests on incoming materials, samples taken during processing, and completed products using approved testing methods.
- Oversee daily laboratory workflow so that testing is completed correctly and within required time limits.
- Use, care for, and complete regular calibration checks on laboratory instruments and other equipment.
- Log test results, analyze findings, and produce clear laboratory reports while maintaining strong documentation and data accuracy.
- Spot unusual results, look into likely reasons, and share findings with the relevant teams.
- Follow laboratory safety rules, environmental expectations, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) at all times.
- Track laboratory chemicals, reagents, and consumables, and keep stock at appropriate levels.
- Provide dependable technical information and practical recommendations to production, quality assurance, and operations teams.
- Take part in internal inspections, audits, and improvement activities aimed at raising laboratory performance.
- Offer direction and technical assistance to junior laboratory staff when needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or another closely related physical science field.
- At least 3 to 5 years of practical laboratory experience, ideally in oil and gas, lubricants, petrochemicals, refinery operations, or a similar industrial setting.
- Strong grasp of lab testing techniques, quality control processes, and analytical instruments.
- Working knowledge of industry standards, laboratory safety, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
- Ability to compile technical reports, interpret lab data, and resolve testing-related issues.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office tools and laboratory record/documentation systems.
