Laboratory Assistant

About the Role

Dynacare is seeking a Laboratory Assistant (Float) to support patients and laboratory operations across multiple sites. In this role, you will collect blood samples and other specimens, carry out selected patient tests, and help ensure a positive, respectful experience for every patient. The position is part of a team-focused environment where quality, service, and care are central to the work.

Work Details

This is a contract, part-time role for 12 months with a guaranteed 24 hours per week. Shifts are during the day and may run between 6:30 am and 5:30 pm, Monday through Saturday. Float assignments may include Kitchener, Niagara Falls, Hamilton, and Burlington, Ontario. The discipline is Laboratory and Health Services Centre. This is an existing vacancy with 1 opening. The start date is as soon as possible, and the internal posting deadline is June 23, 2026.

What You Will Do

• Deliver a strong patient experience through professional, caring interactions related to Dynacare’s products and services.
• Enter patient, test, and requisition information accurately for Ministry of Health forms.
• Collect quality blood samples and other specimens using proper venipuncture techniques aligned with company standards.
• Process specimens and perform supporting tasks such as ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity testing, urine collection, drug screening, and breath alcohol collection.
• Prepare specimens and documentation according to SOPs so they are ready for data entry and transport to the lab.
• Follow established rules for handling acceptable and unacceptable samples.
• Protect confidential information and help the department meet quality, compliance, and regulatory targets.

What You Bring

You should have completed secondary school and finished either a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistant course with specialized phlebotomy training. The role calls for someone who is focused on patients, confident in phlebotomy, able to support anxious individuals calmly, and capable of staying organized in a fast-moving, deadline-driven setting. Strong attention to detail and clear English communication skills, both written and spoken, are required. MLPAO/CSMLS certification is strongly recommended.
