Job description

Overview

This entry-level position involves performing fundamental quality assurance and quality control tasks in a brewery laboratory under supervision, reporting directly to the Lab Manager.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all quality and safety protocols established within the beer production processes at the Monster Brewing facilities.
  • Prepare analytical standards and microbiological growth media accurately.
  • Collect samples aseptically from multiple stages of beer production as required.
  • Carry out basic analytical, microbiological, and sensory evaluations on products, yeast, process streams, and water samples.
  • Document all information promptly and precisely across various logbooks.
  • Communicate analytical results facility-wide through email effectively.
  • Safely handle chemicals, pressurized hoses, and vessels following standard procedures and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of laboratory glassware and equipment.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel for quality control spec checks, data analysis, and trend monitoring.
  • Perform general cleaning of laboratory areas including sweeping, scrubbing, and organization.
  • Ensure the lab workspace is neat and orderly at all times.
  • Promptly escalate any issues or abnormalities to coworkers and management.
  • Work a rotating 12-hour Pitman Continental schedule, alternating four months of day shifts and two months of overnight shifts. Shifts begin at 6 am and 6 pm respectively.
  • Overnight shifts qualify for an additional $40 differential per shift.

  • Perform facility-specific tasks as delegated or assigned.

  • Demonstrate punctuality, dependability, and the ability to multitask effectively.
  • Communicate clearly and seek clarification proactively when uncertain.
  • Exercise responsible, well-informed decision-making skills.

Physical and Mental Demands

  • Maintain physical and mental stamina to operate in challenging environments, including handling workplace stress.
  • Frequently lift and move items weighing between 10 to 75 pounds.
  • Engage in physical activities such as standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and visually inspecting, as well as operating tools and controls.
  • Availability to work weekends and evening shifts as needed.

Position Details

  • Employment: Full-time, non-exempt hourly position.
  • Hourly pay rate: $20.75.
  • Direct supervisor: Lab Manager.
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, or related fields preferred.
  • No prior experience or certifications required.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • No travel or driving required.
  • Uses brewery laboratory equipment such as micropipettes, microscopes, UV/Vis spectrophotometers, pH meters, autoclaves, Alcolyzers, and densitometers.
