Junior Systems Engineer (Hybrid Infrastructure & Cloud)

About the Role

The Junior Systems Engineer plays a critical role in providing primary support for the company's IT infrastructure. This position assists senior engineers in maintaining both on-premises and Microsoft Azure cloud environments. The focus is on monitoring infrastructure health, performing scheduled maintenance, addressing basic server and network issues, and supporting everyday IT operations while expanding technical expertise.

Key Duties

• Continuously observe the status and availability of servers and infrastructure components.
• Carry out routine health checks on servers and escalate any concerns to senior personnel.
• Manage user accounts within Active Directory under supervision.
• Assist in rolling out patches and updates to operating systems.
• Participate in building, deploying, and configuring servers.
• Troubleshoot entry-level problems on Windows and Linux servers.
• Support backup mechanisms and confirm the success of backup jobs.
• Maintain and update technical and operational documentation accurately.
• Refer complex technical incidents to higher-level engineers or service providers as needed.

Microsoft Azure Responsibilities

• Help monitor Azure cloud resources and services.
• Perform elementary administrative tasks on Azure virtual machines and storage with oversight.
• Assist with Azure backup and disaster recovery procedures.
• Review and respond to Azure system alerts.
• Contribute to cloud infrastructure projects when assigned.

Security and Compliance Focus

• Adhere to organizational security protocols and procedures.
• Assist in patch application and vulnerability remediation.
• Integrate fundamental security practices into daily tasks.
• Maintain precise audit and operational records.
• Show basic knowledge of cloud security governance and identity management.

Operational Support

• Deliver Level 1 troubleshooting and support for infrastructure incidents.
• Support routine maintenance within scheduled windows.
• Collaborate with teams across infrastructure, applications, networks, and security.
• Follow IT operational guidelines and change control processes.
• Engage in continuous skill development via training and hands-on work.

Basic Technical Expertise

• Operating Systems: Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Server and Linux distributions like Red Hat, Oracle Linux, or Ubuntu.
• Virtualization: Basic knowledge of VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V platforms.
• Cloud Knowledge: Understanding foundational Microsoft Azure services including VMs, Storage, Backup, and Monitor.
• Identity Management: Experience with Active Directory, preliminary knowledge of Microsoft Entra ID, and Group Policy concepts.
• Storage & Backup: Understanding enterprise storage basics, along with backup and recovery principles.
• Security: Fundamental patch management, endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication setups, system hardening, and cloud governance awareness.

Required Academic and Professional Profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• Between 3 to 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure or technical support roles.
• Working knowledge of Windows Server, Linux, virtualization, or Microsoft Azure services.
• Eagerness to develop expertise in enterprise infrastructure and cloud environments.
• Strong problem-solving, effective communication, and documentation abilities.
• Familiarity with ITIL framework is advantageous.
