Job description

About the role

Lume Collective is an expanding social media and content agency that supports Australian businesses with strategic, considered online content. The team is looking for a creative, detail-focused Graphic Designer & Social Media Creative to join on a contract basis, with the possibility of moving into a permanent full-time role.

This opportunity suits someone who enjoys modern design, likes working across varied projects, and wants room to develop as the business continues to grow. Applicants may be in their final year of university, returning to work, building a freelance career, or simply seeking flexible creative work.

The role values strong visual judgment, a genuine interest in creativity, and a high level of accuracy.

What you'll do

  • Create eye-catching social media artwork for a range of Australian businesses.
  • Build carousel posts and Instagram Stories.
  • Work within established brand rules while contributing fresh ideas.
  • Turn content briefs and captions into refined, strategic designs.
  • Support content planning and creative ideation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally during projects.
  • Handle your own workload and deliver work by agreed deadlines.
  • Use feedback constructively and keep improving the work.
  • Help uphold the quality standards associated with Lume Collective.

What we're looking for

  • A strong sense of composition, typography and visual layout.
  • Outstanding attention to detail.
  • Creative thinking paired with the discipline to follow brand guidelines.
  • Good communication and time-management skills.
  • A positive attitude toward learning and receiving feedback.
  • Genuine care for producing polished, high-quality work.
  • Ability to use Affinity Designer, Affinity Photo, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or comparable design tools.
  • Basic video editing knowledge is helpful, though not essential.

Eligibility

No formal qualification is required. The business is more interested in your creativity, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and the quality of your portfolio than in your educational background. Prior client experience is not mandatory; university assignments, mock brands, freelance pieces, personal projects, or other work samples are all welcome.

Working arrangement

  • Remote contract position.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Initial workload of around 15 to 25 hours per month.
  • Hours may increase as the business expands.
  • Opportunity to move into a permanent full-time position for the right person.

Application requirements

Applicants should email an application with a resume, a portfolio or work samples, and written responses to the application questions. Acceptable portfolio formats include a website, PDF, Google Drive folder, Behance profile, Instagram account, or a similar format.

Application questions

  • Introduce yourself and explain what drew you to the role.
  • Describe the type of design work you enjoy most and why.
  • Share a project you are especially proud of.
  • Identify anything in the job ad that could be improved and explain what you noticed.
  • Explain how you usually handle feedback on your work.
  • Share brands, businesses, or creators whose social media design you admire and why.
  • Describe your design process from a brief, caption, and brand guidelines through to final delivery.
  • Estimate how many hours per week you would like to work.
  • If available, include references from past clients, employers, lecturers, or mentors who can speak to your work.

About the team

Lume Collective is seeking someone who enjoys making thoughtful, well-crafted content rather than simply filling a feed. The team wants a creative who can help small businesses stand out online with design that feels intentional and polished.
