Job description
About the marketing, creative and content team
The Marketing, Creative and Content team plays a central role in shaping how Sunderland AFC engages with supporters and the local community. The group is made up of creative professionals who develop impactful campaigns, strong visual assets, and engaging content that reflect the club’s character and values. Their work spans digital platforms, storytelling, and collaborative campaign delivery, with the goal of building genuine and lasting connections with fans both in the region and around the world.
The team values originality, collaboration, and producing memorable work that strengthens pride and loyalty among supporters.
The opportunity
Sunderland AFC is looking for a Junior Graphic Designer to join a busy and energetic creative environment. In this position, you will produce a wide range of visual materials, including digital graphics, social media content, print collateral, matchday artwork, and website visuals, all aligned to the club’s brand standards and campaign goals. You will work alongside the Brand & Creative Manager or Senior Graphic Designer, turning ideas and briefs into polished creative output while maintaining consistency, quality, and punctual delivery.
The role covers projects from initial concept through to final artwork, including the preparation of files for both print and digital use. It also offers the chance to broaden your design skills across different formats, keep up with developments in football and sport, and contribute fresh thinking to the wider marketing function. A strong eye for detail and a genuine interest in design will help you protect and extend the SAFC brand across every touchpoint.
What we are looking for
The successful candidate should bring at least one year of professional design experience and a portfolio that demonstrates practical, real-world work. You should be comfortable working on your own, with solid skills in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign, as well as experience creating content for digital and social media platforms.
A strong grasp of brand guidelines, visual hierarchy, brief interpretation, and feedback handling is important. You will also need excellent attention to detail, strong organisation and time management, and the ability to manage several assignments in a fast-moving environment. Good communication skills and a collaborative approach are essential.
Experience in sport or similarly energetic environments is desirable, along with knowledge of motion graphics, print production, and basic photography.
Additional requirements
This role requires the successful applicant to obtain a basic DBS check through Sunderland AFC.
This is a full-time, on-site position based at the Stadium of Light and Academy of Light. Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK, as visa sponsorship cannot be offered for this vacancy.
