The Role
This junior estimator role provides a unique chance to move into a desk-based construction career. It is suitable for carpenters transitioning off-site or recent graduates holding a Bachelor of Construction Management. Comprehensive training and mentorship from seasoned estimators will equip you with skills in both Sales and Production Estimating, covering all phases of the estimating process.
Responsibilities
- Assist with Sales Estimating tasks such as assessing site costs, managing variations, and preparing tender pricing.
- Support Production Estimating including preparation of construction orders.
- Review architectural and engineering drawings and technical specifications.
- Help prepare Bills of Quantities (BOQs) and perform quantity take-offs.
- Gather supplier quotes and partake in supplier selection processes.
- Communicate and coordinate with architects, engineers, suppliers, and construction supervisors.
- Maintain estimating databases, price files, and build assemblies.
- Assist in margin reporting and pricing evaluations.
- Respond to internal inquiries related to estimating.
- Learn compliance requirements with the National Construction Code (NCC), Australian Standards, and company guidelines.
- Collaborate closely with senior estimators to expand your knowledge of residential construction’s technical and commercial aspects.
About You
- Holds a Certificate III in Carpentry or a recently attained Bachelor of Construction Management.
- Demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm for residential home building.
- Capable of reading or learning to interpret residential building plans and specifications.
- Has strong attention to detail accompanied by good numerical ability.
- Exhibits excellent communication skills and a positive, proactive attitude.
- Displays a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn from mentors.
- Possesses solid computer literacy and organizational abilities.
- Able to work effectively as part of a team.
- Keen to develop a long-term career in residential estimating and construction.
