Role overview
A growing mechanical services business in County Mayo is looking for a Junior Estimator / Quantity Surveyor to join its established team. This is a permanent, full-time position suited to a recent graduate or an early-career professional who wants to strengthen their skills in estimating, commercial support, and quantity surveying.
Working under the guidance of a Senior Estimator, the successful candidate will gain practical exposure to live projects, tender preparation, cost planning, and the financial side of project delivery. The position includes office-based work along with occasional visits to site.
Salary is €35,000 to €40,000, depending on experience (DOE).
What the job involves
- Assess drawings, specifications, and tender documents to understand project scope.
- Measure quantities and complete take-offs from design drawings.
- Support the creation of accurate cost plans and tender submissions.
- Collect, compare, and review quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Enter pricing, quantities, and project information into estimating software and systems.
- Compile backup documents needed for tender packs.
- Contribute to value engineering work where suitable.
- Take part in site visits and project meetings when required.
- Coordinate with suppliers, subcontractors, and external estimating contacts as needed.
- Keep tender logs, work-in-progress records, and project files organised and up to date.
- Track supplier price changes and maintain estimating databases.
Requirements
- A Level 7 or Level 8 qualification in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field.
- Some prior exposure to estimating, quantity surveying, construction, or a similar environment is an advantage.
- Experience with construction, mechanical, or M&E projects is desirable.
- Strong numerical ability and a practical approach to analysis.
- High attention to detail and solid organisational habits.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office, especially Excel, PowerPoint, and Project.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Self-motivated attitude and a willingness to learn and grow professionally.
