Junior Clinical Fellow – Neurosurgery

Position Overview

We are seeking applicants for one permanent and two fixed-term (6 months) Junior Clinical Fellow roles in Neurosurgery at an ST2+ equivalent level. This opportunity is ideal for driven physicians aiming to deepen their practical knowledge in neurosurgery by working within a busy regional neuroscience service that manages both elective and emergency neurosurgical patients.

Role Responsibilities

The post offers hands-on exposure to a diverse range of cranial and spinal neurosurgical conditions. You will actively participate in surgical theatre procedures, patient clinics, educational sessions, clinical governance meetings, and quality improvement projects. You will be an integral member of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for ward-based patient care, acute admission assessments, perioperative care, and participation in the on-call rota.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must possess full GMC registration with a valid license to practice and have relevant clinical experience at foundation level or higher. Prior NHS work experience is mandatory. Candidates aspiring to specialize in neurosurgery or related fields are preferred. Ideal candidates should demonstrate enthusiasm, dependability, compassion, and effective communication skills with a focus on delivering safe, patient-centered care. Commitment to undertaking a full rota, including on-call duties, is expected.

Our Trust is committed to ongoing improvement, driven by the goal of delivering high-quality, patient-satisfactory care. Recently, we implemented a new electronic patient record system and our maternity services have been rated good by the Care Quality Commission.

Services are delivered across two main sites: King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. The Trust has two busy emergency departments that handled over 346,000 visits last year. Funding efforts are underway to upgrade Queen’s A&E facilities.

Specialised Services and Community Initiatives

We operate a renowned regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre, and Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, and participate in the North East London Cancer Alliance. Our community initiatives include a Women's Health Hub, an Ageing Well Centre, and Community Diagnostic Centres open 12 hours daily, 7 days a week.
