Job description
Role Overview
Gensler’s Silicon Valley studio is hiring an experiential graphic designer who can help clients express their brand stories through immersive experiences that span print, digital, spatial, and technology-driven touchpoints. The position calls for a designer who can interpret brand identity and turn it into engaging graphic solutions, environmental applications, and connected media experiences.
You’ll be part of a cross-functional team that includes designers, architects, strategists, digital experience specialists, and storytellers. The group works across environmental graphics, campus signage, brand systems, placemaking, and communications strategy for clients in a wide range of sectors.
This opportunity is best suited to someone who sees artificial intelligence as a genuine part of the creative process. Candidates should be able to show AI-supported exploration, production, and decision-making in their portfolio.
What You’ll Do
- Create graphics, branded environments, and wayfinding solutions for a variety of project types.
- Collaborate on fast-moving, interdisciplinary teams that include architects, interior designers, illustrators, motion designers, and other specialists.
- Contribute to projects spanning strategic planning, corporate interiors, retail environments, sports venues, and mixed-use developments.
- Develop creative work for workplace, hospitality, retail, sports, aviation, and digital platforms.
- Use AI-assisted design workflows, including FLUX-based and diffusion-model processes through RunDiffusion, to speed up iteration and broaden creative output.
- Document AI methods, share prompt techniques, and support studio-wide learning around AI practices.
- Design web and digital interfaces for client applications, microsites, and digital experience platforms that extend physical brand narratives into screen-based environments.
- Produce and edit video content for client presentations and, where needed, experiential installations.
Qualifications
- 1 to 4 years of experience in graphic design, experiential design, or environmental graphic design, along with a professional degree in industrial design, graphic design, or a related discipline.
- Strong visual judgment and the ability to combine messaging, imagery, color, and typography across print, digital, and three-dimensional environments.
- Careful attention to production details, including artwork handoff for large-format output, substrate specifications, bleed, color management, and fabricator-ready files.
- Comfort drawing to scale and reading architectural construction documents, elevations, plans, and shop drawings.
- Strong communication skills for working with clients, vendors, consultants, and internal teams.
- Ability to manage several projects at once while staying organized, calm, and efficient.
- Comfort working both independently and collaboratively across projects of different sizes and complexity.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, CAD tools, AI visualization platforms such as FLUX-based and diffusion-model workflows via RunDiffusion, and preferably Adobe Firefly.
- A portfolio that includes AI-assisted work, with clear explanation of what was prompted, what was refined manually, and why.
- Ability to explain design choices made with and without AI, including where AI improves speed or quality and where human judgment is essential.
- At least one original design system in the portfolio, such as brand standards, wayfinding logic, or a component framework.
- Proficiency in After Effects or a comparable motion tool; familiarity with Rive or Lottie is a plus.
- Video editing experience in Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve is required.
- Figma proficiency is required, including component architecture, auto layout, and prototyping.
- SketchUp, Rhino, and/or Revit experience is considered an advantage.
Additional Requirements
This position is not remote and is based in Gensler’s San Jose, California office. Applicants must upload a sample design portfolio with their application. Portfolios that clearly show AI-integrated workflows will receive priority consideration.
Compensation and Benefits
The estimated base salary is $75,000 to $82,000 per year, depending on relevant experience. In addition to salary, the role includes bonuses and benefits.
Benefits include medical, dental, vision, disability coverage, wellness programs, flexible spending accounts, paid holidays, paid time off, a 401(k), profit sharing, employee stock ownership, and twice-yearly bonus opportunities.
