Role Overview
The Colorado Judicial Branch is hiring for an entry-level Judicial Clerk I position based in Denver, CO. This role supports case processing and public-facing court services, with a strong emphasis on accuracy, customer assistance, and learning court procedures. The job is classified as non-exempt and carries a full-time salary range of $45,764.00 to $66,358.00.
What You’ll Do
You will provide day-to-day support across case intake, court record handling, payment processing, scheduling, and customer communication. The position is designed as a training role for more advanced clerical and court-processing work.
- Help customers complete paperwork, answer questions, review court forms for completeness, and assign case numbers.
- Receive and route incoming mail, email, e-filings, and in-person submissions.
- Guide people to the right services, including legal clinics, self-help resources, libraries, bar association support, and family court facilitators.
- Maintain case files and update the case management system with case data, contact details, transcript requests, bond forfeitures, and other required information.
- Enter information from law enforcement tickets or filed complaints into the court system.
- Coordinate deadlines and hearings for urgent matters such as protection orders and other time-sensitive cases.
- Handle records received from trial courts, manage the referring court record server, send records to litigants, and return records after mandate.
- Accept payments by cash, check, and credit card for fines, fees, filing charges, and bonds; balance the cash drawer and prepare daily deposits.
- Respond to phone, email, and voicemail inquiries, serve as a liaison between the division/Judicial Officer and the public, direct parties to the proper location or division, de-escalate tense situations, and explain court procedures without giving legal advice.
- Learn trial court and appellate court procedures through training.
- Prepare and issue court orders and notices, including deadlines, extensions, new filing notices, oral argument notices, record-receipt notices, and mandate-related documents.
- Complete required trainings, attend meetings, and carry out other assigned duties.
Working Conditions
This is an office-based, indoor role. The work is primarily sedentary, with occasional lifting or movement of objects up to 10 pounds. The environment is generally free from unpleasant conditions or hazards, and there are no noted exposures.
