Job description
Job Summary
The Janitor II role focuses on keeping the factory clean, orderly, and safe. This position also helps the Maintenance team during planned preventive maintenance work and uses basic cleaning machinery to keep the site free from hazards and operating smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Keep floors clean using mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, waxing, buffing, stripping, and sealing as required.
- Clean restrooms, including fixtures and surfaces, and restock supplies when needed.
- Wipe down walls and windows and remove dust from fixtures to support thorough cleaning.
- Collect waste from all areas and empty trash receptacles appropriately.
- Track cleaning supply levels and inform the supervisor when replenishment is needed.
- Maintain outdoor areas by sweeping sidewalks and parking lots and clearing litter and debris.
- Remove snow from sidewalks and parking areas when required and may support seasonal lawn care.
- Clean production zones, equipment, and workspaces to support safety and organization.
- Keep walking routes in production and warehouse areas clear and safe for pedestrian traffic.
- Spot and report unsafe conditions or hazards to the right personnel.
- Use powered equipment such as pallet jacks, floor scrubbers, and floor sweepers.
- Support Maintenance during scheduled preventive maintenance using basic hand tools and battery-powered tools.
- May help train new janitors by showing them job duties and correct cleaning methods.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- At least 1 year of janitorial or similar cleaning experience, ideally in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Comfortable operating basic cleaning machines and powered tools such as floor scrubbers, sweepers, and pallet jacks.
- Able to follow both written and verbal directions and work on own initiative.
- Strong eye for detail and ability to recognize safety risks.
- Basic math ability for simple measurements and inventory checks.
- Able to read, write, and understand written instructions.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to work in a factory setting with exposure to dust, noise, and cleaning chemicals.
- Must be able to use various cleaning machines and power tools.
- Must be able to frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to frequently push and pull up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to crawl, bend, kneel, climb, and squat as needed.
- Must be able to handle exposure to changing temperatures, including heat and cold.
- Must be able to stand and walk frequently.
