Role Overview
We are seeking a dependable and proactive Janitor / Facilities Assistant to join a respected facilities management firm operating multiple sites in Midlothian. This role demands hands-on involvement in maintaining buildings to ensure they remain safe, clean, functional, and well-preserved for all occupants and visitors. Candidates must have their own transport to fulfill site requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily janitorial and building maintenance tasks across various locations.
- Handle minor repairs including plumbing fixes, painting, fixture maintenance, and general upkeep of building structures.
- Conduct routine building inspections, identifying and addressing repair needs.
- Keep communal areas, plant rooms, storage facilities, and external premises in excellent condition.
- Assist with minor furniture relocation, room arrangements, and operational support onsite.
- Replace lighting and carry out basic upkeep activities, collaborating with specialized contractors as necessary.
- Supervise and accompany contractors on-site to ensure safety and adherence to protocols.
- Manage inventory of maintenance materials, cleaning supplies, and tools.
- Respond efficiently to maintenance requests and communicate status updates to the facilities team.
- Contribute to compliance with health & safety standards and building regulations.
- Support overall building appearance, upkeep, and security measures.
Candidate Profile
- Experience in janitorial, caretaker, handyperson, or facilities maintenance roles.
- Practical skills in performing minor building repairs and maintenance duties.
- Basic understanding of plumbing, decorating, building fabric repair, and general maintenance.
- Comfortable with IT systems for job logging and record management.
- Strong knowledge of health & safety practices.
- Ability to manage workload effectively and work independently.
- Reliable, professional demeanor with a customer-oriented approach.
- Possession of a full UK driving license and access to personal transportation.
