Job description

Role overview

This Auckland-based IT Recruiter position is part of a New Zealand-focused internal hiring team, with occasional support for roles in other locations. The environment is fast-moving and collaborative, with recruiters sharing work and backing one another rather than operating in isolation. The ideal person brings sound judgement, empathy, pace, a good sense of humour, and a low-ego approach.

The role involves partnering closely with hiring managers and senior stakeholders to recruit across IT and related client-facing technology roles. You will be trusted to challenge vague, unrealistic, or unnecessarily complex hiring processes early, and to use your judgement to spot potential that may not be obvious from a CV alone.

What the role involves

Some hiring briefs will be well defined, while others will need help translating business need into a clear recruitment plan. You’ll work through salary expectations, technical requirements, and what success in the role actually looks like, then create the job advertisement, launch the search, and manage the process through to offer.

A key part of the job is identifying strong candidates who may not be obvious at first glance. You’ll look beyond keywords to assess motivation, communication style, values alignment, client-facing ability, technical relevance, and whether the person can genuinely succeed in the role rather than only in a polished job ad version of it.

You will also help hiring managers understand candidate value, keep processes moving, coordinate interviews, and maintain a strong candidate experience from first contact through to final offer.

Core responsibilities

  • Run initial role discussions and refine hiring briefs with managers
  • Draft and publish job ads
  • Source candidates actively and engage them directly
  • Screen applicants for technical fit, communication, motivation, values, and overall role suitability
  • Organise interviews and keep recruitment activity on track
  • Set expectations clearly and manage candidate communication and offers professionally
  • Improve hiring processes and workflows where possible
  • Raise concerns early when recruitment steps become unclear, impractical, or overly complicated

Requirements and practical details

This is a full-time permanent internal recruitment role, not an agency position. It is based in Auckland and operates in a hybrid working setup. Recruitment may cover New Zealand as well as other First Focus locations when needed.

The business is looking for someone with strong end-to-end recruitment experience in a busy environment that includes mixed roles. Technical familiarity with MSP, IT services, and client-facing technology is important so you can ask better questions and identify strong people beyond the CV keywords.

Applicants should be confident in sourcing strategy, candidate assessment, market awareness, and building trust with hiring managers. You’ll need to be organised under pressure, communicate clearly, follow through reliably, and balance empathy with high standards.

Desired experience

  • Proven end-to-end recruitment experience in a high-volume or mixed-role setting
  • Knowledge of technology recruitment, especially in IT services or MSP environments
  • Ability to assess candidates with strong potential even when their profile is not an obvious fit on paper
  • Comfort giving hiring managers practical guidance on market conditions, salary expectations, and candidate availability
  • A collaborative, low-ego working style with strong ownership and momentum
  • Experience in internal recruitment or distributed recruitment environments is highly valued

Benefits and perks

  • Competitive package of up to $100k plus KiwiSaver, depending on values, skills, and experience
  • Hybrid work arrangement
  • Access to Uprise, including 1:1 coaching with qualified psychologists or counsellors
  • Flexible working designed to support work-life balance
  • Flexible leave options
  • 10 paid study days each year under the Never Stop Growing program, with exam fees covered where conditions are met
  • FastTrack mentoring program
  • Ongoing mentoring, support, and real opportunities for internal growth
  • MAD (Making a Difference) Council focused on equality, charity, and the environment
  • Regular social events and a strong team culture

Culture and values

The company is a growing IT services business with operations across Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines. It offers the structure and opportunity of a larger organisation while still remaining personal and people-focused.

This position suits someone who lives the company’s values, especially curiosity. The role calls for someone who asks better questions, challenges assumptions, and looks beyond the obvious when reviewing a brief, reading a CV, or helping a hiring manager recognise talent they might otherwise overlook.

Candidate profile

  • Someone who can take ownership of an urgent priority and turn it into progress quickly
  • Someone who can identify candidates others may miss and help both sides see the value in the match
  • Someone who understands recruitment as shared team work rather than a solo race
  • Someone who is practical, useful, and focused on outcomes rather than appearing impressive
