Job description

Role overview

The IT Officer will keep the school’s technology environment running smoothly, securely, and efficiently on a daily basis. This is a practical, on-the-ground position that supports teaching, learning, and general school operations in a newly established setting.

As this is a startup school, the role blends hands-on technical assistance with coordination across the broader SEK network and outside service providers. The selected person will be the only IT specialist on site and will work closely with school leadership, teaching staff, and regional IT support.

Core IT operations and support

  • Maintain dependable operation of the school’s technology setup, including networks, WiFi, servers, interactive whiteboards, printers, and shared devices.
  • Set up, manage, and support staff laptops in a Windows-based environment, while helping student devices connect securely to school systems.
  • Serve as the first contact for staff-facing hardware and software problems and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Provide support inside classrooms and during lessons whenever technology disruptions occur.
  • Support school-issued iPads for younger learners and help maintain connectivity for BYOD use in upper year groups.
  • Administer educational platforms, including user support and data handling.

Platforms, systems, and access

  • Create, manage, and maintain Microsoft 365 accounts, access rights, and permission structures.
  • Support the technical deployment of school systems such as learning management systems, student information systems, assessment tools, and safeguarding, filtering, and content control solutions.
  • Ensure staff and students have the correct access levels, settings, and protection measures in place.

Safeguarding, security, and compliance

  • Oversee the technical side of online safeguarding, including filtering, monitoring, and access control measures.
  • Help the school meet cybersecurity, data protection, and file management expectations in line with SEK group standards.
  • Apply and enforce password, access, and device-use rules set by the school and the group.

Collaboration and coordination

  • Partner with academic and leadership teams, especially where classroom technology supports teaching and learning.
  • Coordinate with the SEK regional IT lead and the IT officer at the sister school to follow shared systems, practices, and configurations.
  • Escalate advanced issues appropriately and coordinate repairs, replacements, and technical resolutions when needed.
  • Work with project, operations, and external partners to maintain uninterrupted service.

Pre-opening and startup phase

  • Join the team by May 2026 to support the school before opening.
  • Help prepare, configure, and test IT systems ahead of launch, building on the model used by the sister school.
  • Assist with testing, piloting, and validating systems before students and staff are fully on site.
  • Help produce and maintain clear internal IT procedures and support documentation.

Experience, skills, and attributes

  • Hands-on background in IT support, systems administration, or technical operations; experience in schools is helpful but not required.
  • Comfort working across mixed devices, including Windows laptops, iPads, and BYOD setups.
  • Experience managing user accounts, permissions, and access in a Microsoft-oriented environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting ability and a calm, solution-driven approach under pressure.
  • Clear communication skills for working with non-technical colleagues.
  • Ability to work independently while staying connected to a wider support network.
  • Well-organized, flexible, and comfortable in a developing startup environment.
  • Native-level or very strong English is essential.
  • Arabic communication skills are a strong plus.

Why join us?

  • Opportunity to establish and stabilize IT systems from the beginning in a new international school.
  • Access to a supportive SEK network with shared expertise and proven models.
  • A practical role with direct influence on day-to-day school life and teaching quality.
  • A high-quality work setting in a purpose-built school within a distinctive community.
