Job description

About the Company

Hyne Group is a long-established family of businesses operating in Australia and New Zealand, with more than 140 years of history. Beginning as a sawmill on the Mary River, it has developed into a leader in sustainable timber manufacturing. The group works in partnership with James Jones & Sons, a global timber processor with a combined 320 years of family-owned sawmilling experience.

The Hyne Group includes Hyne Timber, XLam, Rocky Point and Hyne Pallets. Its products support industries such as construction, garden care, horticulture and logistics. The business focuses on innovative processes and environmentally responsible practices, turning each log into high-quality products and aiming to make full use of every part of the resource.

The Opportunity

Hyne Timber is seeking a hands-on and service-oriented IT Field Technician to support office and manufacturing teams across Australia and New Zealand. Reporting to the Service Desk Manager, you will play a key role in keeping systems and devices working reliably for users across the business.

The role will begin at the Hamilton office and move to the new Murarrie site from April 2027. It combines on-site and remote support, device setup, troubleshooting, and day-to-day technical assistance, offering variety, independence, and regular interaction with users.

Key Duties

  • Put safety first in every task and help ensure employees return home safely.
  • Handle support requests and incidents quickly, communicate clearly, and keep accurate notes in the service desk platform.
  • Set up, maintain, and support equipment such as laptops, printers, routers, and mobile devices.
  • Diagnose and fix technical problems to reduce disruption for office and site-based teams.
  • Carry out regular maintenance, updates, and system checks to keep technology running well.
  • Guide users with simple, practical instructions and basic training.
  • Work with the wider IT team to raise and resolve more complex issues.
  • Help identify recurring faults and potential risks, then contribute to improvements.

About You

This position will suit someone who enjoys helping others, solving problems, and working in both office and manufacturing settings. Success in the role will depend on being adaptable, communicating well, and keeping a calm, practical approach.

The role is a strong stepping stone for someone looking to build an IT career and broaden their experience across different technologies and business environments. It is primarily office-based, with opportunities to work from other sites in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, and Perth.

Requirements

  • Practical experience with systems such as Windows, Office 365, and Active Directory.
  • Confidence in supporting hardware and common software issues.
  • Exposure to device management tools such as Intune or comparable platforms.
  • Experience using an IT ticketing system and managing service requests in a timely, professional way.
  • A calm and structured approach to troubleshooting.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Clear communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
  • A current driver's licence and a willingness to travel about once a month.
  • Availability for monthly site travel and participation in a rotating on-call roster every four weeks.

Additional Information

Travel is required approximately once per month for short visits, and the role involves working closely with a supportive IT team across multiple locations. The position also requires participation in a rotating on-call roster every four weeks.

Why Join Hyne Timber

  • Access to Life Leave, which allows you to purchase additional recreation leave, plus paid parental leave.
  • Remote access tools including a laptop and smartphone to support flexibility and connection.
  • Flexible working hours with adjustable start and finish times.
  • Employee wellbeing support, including an employee assistance program for you and your immediate family.
  • Annual salary reviews based on peer and market comparisons.
  • Discounted private health cover, including waived waiting periods and reduced fees.
