Job description

Job purpose

This role supports the factory’s everyday IT needs while also contributing to improvement work in digitalisation, training, and the standardisation of processes.

Reporting line

The position reports to the Continuous Improvement Lead.

Core responsibilities

The responsibilities below are the main duties for the role, though the list is not exhaustive.

IT support and maintenance

  • Act as the first point of contact for IT issues raised within the factory.
  • Diagnose and resolve basic problems involving hardware, software, printers, scanners, mobile devices, and simple network faults.
  • Refer more complex technical issues to Group IT or outside service providers when needed.
  • Assist staff with Microsoft 365, shared drives, factory systems, and standard business software.
  • Carry out regular IT checks, updates, and maintenance activities in line with company processes and Group IT direction.
  • Help develop and test straightforward automation, reporting, and data-sharing improvements between existing factory systems.

Continuous improvement and digitalisation

  • Contribute to continuous improvement activity across production, operations, quality, engineering, and training.
  • Support process mapping, data gathering, issue analysis, and action tracking.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual administration, improve information flow, and create more consistent working methods.
  • Assist in building simple digital tools, forms, trackers, reports, and dashboards.
  • Support the implementation of improvement projects and ensure users receive the training and help they need.

Operational training

  • Help deliver training for new starters and provide practical guidance to support a smooth onboarding experience.

IT asset management

  • Maintain an accurate register of IT assets, including hardware, software licences, and peripherals.
  • Track the purchase, issue, and retirement of IT assets in line with agreed procedures and budget limits.
  • Perform regular checks to confirm the location and condition of IT assets and resolve any mismatches found.
  • Continue to support simple automation, reporting, and data exchange enhancements between factory systems.
  • Take part in professional development opportunities that support long-term career growth.

Essential experience and skills

  • Working knowledge of basic IT support tasks, including hardware/software troubleshooting and system maintenance; ideally around 1 year of IT experience.
  • Strong planning and organisation skills, with the ability to manage time well and balance multiple priorities.
  • Self-driven, proactive, and able to take initiative.
  • Good analytical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical matters and work with different teams.
  • Ability to identify, investigate, and resolve IT issues efficiently while keeping disruption to operations low.

Desirable experience

  • Previous exposure to manufacturing, food production, or another regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with improvement methods such as 5S, Lean, root cause analysis, standard work, or process mapping.
  • Experience using SharePoint, Power Apps, Power BI, Excel-based reporting, or similar digital tools.
  • Experience creating training materials, SOP videos, or presentations.
  • Understanding of IT asset management, stock control, or software licence tracking.
  • Basic awareness of IT security practices.
  • Experience supporting system rollouts, user training, or change management.
  • Recognition of Prior Learning may be considered where relevant experience, training, or voluntary work is available.
