About the Role
Become part of a results-driven, inclusive, and high-achieving team at Scotiabank's Global Banking & Markets division. This division offers a comprehensive suite of investment banking, credit, and risk management solutions tailored to meet clients' strategic financing needs. Products span debt and equity financing, mergers and acquisitions, corporate banking, institutional equity sales, trading, research, fixed income products, derivatives, energy, foreign exchange, and precious metals. The division also promotes cross-selling of Scotiabank's extensive wholesale offerings.
As an Investment Banking Analyst, you will engage in a challenging environment executing a diverse range of transactions. Early career Analysts prioritize client presentations, financial modeling, and research, progressively assuming greater responsibility on live deals with guidance from senior team members. The analyst role encourages direct interaction with senior colleagues and clients from the outset to build and manage relationships effectively.
The position demands significant dedication, initiative, and attention to detail due to the complexity of client financial needs and intense competitive industry standards. Work is presented to senior client executives with minimal supervision. Operating within a lean team structure provides analysts with ample growth prospects and opportunities to collaborate across corporate banking, equity capital markets, fixed income, and equity derivatives, thereby gaining broader capital markets insight.
New Analysts might participate in the Capital Ideas Program, tailored to introduce firm culture, clients, products, and essential soft and technical skills through team projects, individual learning, and social activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess corporate clients’ financial requirements and develop detailed financial models.
- Prepare marketing materials and client presentations.
- Assist with structuring and execution of transactions, gradually taking on more accountability.
- Identify new business prospects and cultivate client relationships.
- Conduct in-depth financial statement analyses and maintain financial models.
- Gather and interpret comprehensive company and industry data.
- Perform written and quantitative assessments of businesses and sectors.
- Compile information and assemble materials for client presentations.
- Support drafting prospectuses and marketing documents for transaction processes.
- Utilize knowledge of products and capital markets to help clients meet their financial objectives.
Candidate Requirements
- Completion of undergraduate degree by Spring 2026.
- Preferred experience includes investment banking, M&A, private equity; alternative backgrounds such as equity research, corporate finance, accounting firms, or management consulting may also be considered.
- Demonstrated academic excellence and notable extracurricular achievement.
- Strong commitment and interest in investment banking and mergers & acquisitions.
- Advanced quantitative abilities focusing on financial analysis, accounting principles, and finance theory.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Capability to handle multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality outputs.
- Ability to perform effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Effective collaboration and teamwork abilities.
- High professional ethics with strong integrity and a team-oriented mindset.
- Ability to adapt rapidly to new environments and challenges.
- Energetic, motivated to learn, and capable of independent judgment and decision-making.
- Industry-related experience is an asset.
