Opportunity Overview

As an Investment Analyst on the Equities Global Funds team, you will be instrumental in assessing, executing, and supervising private equity fund investments. Integrated within a streamlined global team, this position offers direct engagement with top-tier private equity firms and valuable experiential learning. This role presents a unique chance to establish a robust expertise in fund investing while aiding Ontario Teachers’ in achieving outstanding long-term returns for its membership.

Team Collaboration

This role operates within the Investments Division at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan, embedded in the Toronto-based Equities Global Funds group. It reports to the Director of Global Funds, coordinating frequently with the broader Funds team locally and internationally. Close cooperation with Private Capital direct investment teams and other internal parties supports collaborative investment activities and the exchange of knowledge organization-wide.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough research on fund managers and industry trends to assess new and subsequent fund investment prospects.
  • Carry out portfolio-level analyses and comprehensive due diligence processes.
  • Assist in the execution of new fund commitments by preparing investment proposals and materials for investment committee evaluation.
  • Initiate relationship-building with general partners, limited partners, and industry networks.
  • Develop and sustain financial models and analyses for fund valuation, portfolio analytics, and performance benchmarking.
  • Engage in manager research and maintain market mapping for effective sourcing and portfolio design.
  • Contribute to active portfolio monitoring including evaluating opportunities in secondary transactions.
  • Collaborate closely with Private Capital direct investment teams to capitalize on fund partnerships and co-investment deal flow.
  • Support strategic planning, reporting, and procedural processes within the Global Funds team.
  • Operate in a cooperative environment primarily within the Toronto team and with global Funds team members.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year relevant experience; backgrounds in private equity, investment banking, fund investing, corporate development, consulting, or transaction services are highly advantageous.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative aptitude with a proven capacity for detailed, innovative, and critical evaluation.
  • Keen interest in private markets, fund investing, and global financial arenas along with intellectual curiosity.
  • Exemplifies professionalism, integrity, and a team-oriented attitude.
  • Exceptional meticulousness and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks independently in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment with tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and financial platforms such as Bloomberg and Capital IQ.
  • Flexibility to travel as required.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation is linked to performance, combining a base salary and an annual incentive based on individual and company results. Base pay is approximately $115,000 in the first year, increasing to $125,000 in the second year, adjusted for candidates' experience, skills, competencies, and internal salary equity.
