Role Overview
This role presents a distinctive opportunity to engage in high-level investigations centered around blockchain intelligence, financial crime deterrence, and digital asset protection. The Investigations Specialist will be responsible for conducting sophisticated probes into cryptocurrency transactions, cyber threats, and illicit finance activities across diverse blockchain platforms. The position emphasizes collaboration with international law enforcement, internal teams, and other stakeholders to uncover malicious networks and bolster security.
Primary Duties
- Examine customer account actions and on-chain/off-chain transactions, alongside linked entities, to detect suspicious activities and evaluate related risks.
- Execute blockchain tracing on multiple networks and asset types, encompassing activities with bridges, swaps, smart contracts, and DeFi protocols.
- Conduct open-source intelligence (OSINT) research pulling from varied data sources to reinforce investigations and due diligence efforts.
- Identify behavior patterns, trends, and malicious networks using data analytics and investigative techniques.
- Create comprehensive investigative reports outlining approaches, sources, discoveries, and final conclusions.
- Assess legal documents such as subpoenas, court orders, seizure warrants, and freeze requests in the course of investigations.
- Work alongside internal team members and external law enforcement to manage information sharing and case collaboration.
- Offer training sessions and knowledge exchange related to cryptocurrency threats, investigative practices, and new threat typologies.
- Suggest enhancements to security measures and fraud prevention frameworks within the organization.
Candidate Requirements
- At least five years experience directly or indirectly supporting U.S. federal law enforcement bodies.
- A minimum of three years conducting investigations tied to cybercrime, financial crime, or cryptocurrency.
- Proven background supporting crypto investigations or delivering technical blockchain expertise.
- Practical proficiency with blockchain analytic tools such as Chainalysis, TRM Labs, or similar platforms.
- In-depth understanding of various cryptocurrencies, blockchain frameworks, and differences among networks and protocols.
- Familiarity with decentralized finance ecosystems including mixers, bridges, swaps, and smart contracts.
- Strong analytical abilities, investigative expertise, and problem-solving skills capable of handling large complex datasets.
- Excellent writing skills for producing clear, succinct, and actionable reports.
- Well-established connections within U.S. law enforcement or international investigative counterparts are highly preferred.
- Experience in delivering training or mentoring regarding cryptocurrency investigations is a valuable advantage.
- Knowledge of OSINT approaches and experience utilizing AI for investigations are positives.
- Skills in Portuguese or Spanish languages are beneficial.
