Job description
Overview
The International Media Relations Consultant will spearhead ATRC's dynamic interaction with global media outlets, elevating the organization's research innovations, leadership, and technological advances in worldwide discussions. This role demands more than traditional media liaison; it requires sharp news insight and the knack for uncovering engaging narratives beyond basic technical updates.
Key Responsibilities
- Continuously analyze worldwide news, regulatory shifts, geopolitical changes, technology trends, and industry discourse to unearth timely chances to showcase ATRC's expertise and findings.
- Craft innovative story angles that transcend conventional product or technology announcements.
- Design and execute rapid media engagement strategies aligned with breaking news, emerging developments, and global conversations.
- Propose thought leadership initiatives including commentary, opinion pieces, and interviews that resonate with current events.
- Research and track journalists, editors, and media outlets internationally to identify fresh collaboration opportunities.
- Maintain comprehensive journalist profiles highlighting interests, past communications, preferred formats, and editorial priorities.
- Establish durable, trust-based relationships with media professionals by understanding their reporting goals and newsroom environments.
- Customize media pitches tailored to diverse regional markets and editorial nuances.
- Formulate unique media strategies per priority region, adapting messaging and spokesperson positioning accordingly.
- Evaluate potential benefits and risks of media interactions, recommending timing adjustments based on geopolitical, regulatory, or internal sensitivities.
- Collaborate closely with Media Intelligence and digital teams to monitor sentiment and ensure consistent messaging across channels.
- Support media responses during crises or sensitive scenarios, exercising prudent judgment and escalating issues for coordination with Government Affairs, Legal, or senior leadership as necessary.
- Safeguard the organization's reputation by fostering accurate, balanced communication, especially on sensitive topics.
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of five years in international media relations, journalism, or strategic communication roles within global entities or agencies.
- Proven experience in cultivating journalist relationships across the UK, Europe, North America, and other international regions.
- Deep knowledge of international media landscapes with a practical ability to spot newsjacking opportunities and craft strategic narratives.
- Experience handling communications that are sensitive, high-profile, or politically nuanced.
- Strong research skills and intellectual curiosity allowing quick mastery of complex technical content.
- Track record of securing proactive earned media coverage rather than merely reactive engagement.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, capable of influencing senior journalists and editors confidenly.
- Arabic language skills are preferable but not a requirement.
