Where you'll work
Job description
About the role
Places for People describes itself as a people-first employer focused on building inclusive, thriving communities for customers and colleagues. The organisation values attitude and alignment with its People Promises as much as previous experience, looking for someone who acts with integrity, brings energy, wants to develop, values community, treats others with respect, and enjoys their work.
This position is centred on maintaining clean, safe shared spaces, both inside and outside, while supporting the wider safety and wellbeing of the site. The work includes practical duties, occasional manual handling, and a strong emphasis on safe working practices.
What you'll do
- Keep communal indoor and outdoor areas tidy, hygienic, and safe for everyone using the site.
- Log and escalate site issues such as fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles, and similar concerns.
- Carry out graffiti removal when required.
- Complete training tasks as instructed and work in line with company procedures.
- Follow all health, safety, environmental, and organisational policies at all times.
- Support safety checks on site, including testing fire alarms and emergency lighting.
- Contribute to a positive, inclusive working culture by acting in line with the organisation’s people promises.
- Handle manual tasks carefully and with appropriate attention to safety.
What they're looking for
Extensive prior experience is not essential, and full training will be provided. The ideal candidate takes pride in creating clean and welcoming spaces, works reliably, and is comfortable carrying out both indoor and outdoor tasks. Clear communication, a practical mindset, and a proactive, positive approach are important.
You should be willing to learn, follow guidance, and work confidently within health and safety expectations. A full driving licence is needed, as travel between sites may be required.
Essential criteria
- Understanding of COSHH and health and safety practices.
- Awareness of health, safety, environmental, and compliance requirements connected to cleaning products.
- Full driving licence.
Benefits
- Competitive pay with an annual salary review.
- Pension scheme with matched employer contributions up to 7%.
- Holiday entitlement of up to 35 days, including bank holidays, with the option to buy or sell leave.
- Cashback support for healthcare costs of up to £500 per year.
- 2% bonus scheme for all colleagues.
- Access to training and development opportunities.
- Discounts and special offers from a wide range of retailers, cinemas, and more.
Next steps
Applicants are asked to complete a short application, upload a CV and a supporting statement showing how they meet the role criteria. The employer notes that the closing date may be brought forward if there is strong response, so early application is encouraged. If applying on a mobile device, the CV should be available in cloud storage such as Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox.
Safeguarding and pre-employment checks
Safeguarding is treated as a shared responsibility. The organisation aims to protect children, young people, and adults at risk through strong policies and accountable working practices. Pre-employment screening may include DBS checks where relevant, and employees are expected to follow safeguarding policies and raise concerns appropriately.
Equal opportunities and guaranteed interview commitments
The employer supports the Armed Forces Covenant and guarantees an interview for eligible applicants from the Armed Forces community who meet the essential criteria. It is also a Disability Confident Level 2 Employer and will guarantee interviews for disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria. Neurodivergent applicants who meet the requirements are likewise guaranteed an interview.
