Role Overview

As an Internal Auditor, you will be responsible for planning and carrying out audit work across financial, operational, and compliance areas. The role involves evaluating internal controls, identifying risks and process gaps, reviewing compliance obligations, and reporting findings to management with practical recommendations.

Key Responsibilities

You will assess control environments, test processes, document audit work clearly, and monitor remediation of previously raised issues. The position also requires close coordination with business teams, compliance, legal, and external auditors to strengthen governance and reduce duplication of effort.

Audit Planning and Execution

  • Develop and carry out risk-focused audit plans across financial, operational, and compliance functions.
  • Perform walkthroughs, interviews, and testing to assess whether controls are well designed and working effectively.
  • Record procedures, observations, and conclusions in accurate and well-structured working papers.
  • Spot weak controls, process inefficiencies, and instances of non-compliance.
  • Track earlier audit findings to confirm that management has implemented corrective actions on time.

Risk Assessment and Control Review

  • Carry out risk assessments to determine which areas need audit attention most urgently.
  • Review the strength of risk management frameworks and control systems across business units.
  • Check compliance with internal policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory obligations.
  • Identify new or emerging risk areas and escalate them to management promptly.

Compliance and Regulatory Work

  • Ensure audit activities align with the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (IPPF).
  • Monitor compliance with UAE laws and regulations, including Insurance Authority and Central Bank requirements.
  • Support compliance reporting and regulatory submissions when required.
  • Work with compliance and legal teams to make sure audit coverage reflects regulatory changes.

Reporting and Follow-Up

  • Prepare concise audit reports covering findings, root causes, risk ratings, and recommended actions.
  • Present results and recommendations to management and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor the status of management action plans and unresolved audit matters.
  • Contribute to quarterly and annual internal audit updates for senior leadership.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build productive working relationships with business unit managers and process owners.
  • Coordinate with external auditors by sharing relevant information and helping avoid unnecessary overlap.
  • Provide advisory input to management on process improvement and control enhancement initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) is preferred; CPA or ACCA is an added advantage.
  • At least 5 years of experience in internal or external audit, ideally in financial services or insurance.
  • Experience in the UAE and familiarity with local regulatory frameworks will be beneficial.
  • Strong knowledge of internal audit standards, financial controls, risk management, governance, IFRS, and accounting principles.
  • Experience using audit management tools and ERP systems.
  • Excellent analytical ability, report writing skills, and stakeholder communication skills.

Recruitment Process

Your application will first be reviewed by the Talent Acquisition team. If your profile matches the role, you will be invited to an introductory conversation about your experience and motivation.

Shortlisted candidates will then meet the hiring team. Depending on the role, the process may include 2 to 3 interview rounds and could involve case studies, practical tasks, or role-specific discussions. If successful, the recruiter will contact you with the offer and next steps.

Working Culture

Shory offers an environment built around ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning. As part of First Tech, you will work in a setting that values innovation, speed, and measurable impact, while contributing to products that shape how people experience financial services.

Equal Opportunity

Shory is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. Candidates from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply if the opportunity aligns with their interests and experience.
