Position Overview
The Interior Designer role involves close collaboration with clients, architects, project managers, and site superintendents to create interior design concepts, select materials and finishes, and plan spaces primarily for residential construction and remodeling projects. The position requires balancing creative vision with practical construction needs, ensuring designs are aesthetically pleasing, budget-conscious, and achievable within project timelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with clients to ascertain their design tastes, lifestyle requirements, and budget constraints.
- Create interior design concepts, including mood boards, floor plans, and three-dimensional renderings for residential projects.
- Choose and specify finishes, fixtures, materials, cabinetry, flooring, lighting, plumbing elements, hardware, paint schemes, and furnishings.
- Collaborate closely with architects, structural engineers, and project managers to ensure that design intentions align with building feasibility and regulatory codes.
- Prepare comprehensive specification documents, finish schedules, and procurement paperwork for construction teams.
- Sourcing materials and products from vendors, managing samples, and price negotiations.
- Perform site visits during construction phases to verify that installations correspond to design specifications and to resolve any onsite issues.
- Monitor budgets associated with design choices and relay cost impacts to clients and project leaders.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects efficiently to meet deadlines corresponding to construction schedules.
- Keep abreast of current interior design trends, advancing building materials, and promote sustainable and green design practices.
- Organize client approvals, selections, and change orders meticulously.
- Present design ideas and choices to clients clearly and professionally.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a closely related discipline is mandatory.
- Minimum of three years of professional experience in interior design, ideally focused on residential construction, custom homes, or renovation projects.
- Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Chief Architect, Revit, or similar platforms; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is advantageous.
- In-depth understanding of construction processes, materials, and residential building codes.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to maintain strong client relationships.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage and prioritize multiple project deadlines effectively.
- Ability to interpret architectural and construction drawings accurately.
- Certification like NCIDQ is beneficial but not obligatory.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to construction sites and showrooms are required.
