Job Responsibilities

The Instructional Designer for EHR plays a vital role in designing, developing, and deploying diverse educational programs related to the Electronic Health Record system. This includes creating asynchronous and synchronous courses delivered virtually or in person, as well as blended and academic formats. The designer collaborates with application teams, Epic specialists, and operational representatives to innovate new curricula, adapt existing materials into new formats, and keep training resources up-to-date according to quarterly Epic system upgrades.

Key duties include assessing organizational training needs; constructing clinical patient scenarios; creating training users, departments, appointments, and encounters reflective of real-world staff roles; troubleshooting post-upgrade build errors; and ensuring the training environment remains synchronized with the production environment for an optimal learning experience. Additional responsibilities include scripting and basic workflow recording using tools like Kaltura, managing projects and timelines, maintaining Epic Learning Home dashboards, credentialing trainers, and developing user support materials.

The Instructional Designer also serves as a performance consultant in designated areas, participates in departmental committees and workgroups, and periodically travels to other Mayo Clinic locations to fulfill enterprise-wide responsibilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in adult education, training and development, human resources, medical, or related field required
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in training or instructional design
  • Master's degree in education, instructional design, or relevant field preferred
  • Proven track record in curriculum design and development
  • Knowledge of relational and web-based databases is advantageous
  • Proficiency in standard productivity software, web-based authoring tools, graphic design, and multimedia applications
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within teams
  • Epic knowledge or experience preferred, with required Epic analyst certification achieved within six months of hire

Additional Information

  • Exempt employment status
  • Salary range from $75,920 to $120,827 annually
  • Candidates must reside within 100 miles of any Mayo Clinic campus
  • No visa sponsorship or transfer available for this position
  • Full-time schedule of 80 hours biweekly, Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility
  • Occasional weekends and evening hours required for special events like upgrades or implementations
  • Employment locations include multiple Mayo Clinic campuses and health system sites across the U.S.
