Job description

About the company

Revolut was founded in 2015 with the goal of giving people greater control, clarity, and flexibility over their finances. Its suite of products covers spending, saving, investing, currency exchange, travel, and more, serving 75+ million customers globally.

The business has grown rapidly and now employs 13,000+ people across offices and remote locations worldwide. It has also been recognised as a Great Place to Work™, reflecting a strong focus on employee experience, product quality, and a high-performance culture.

Role overview

The Compliance function combines regulatory knowledge with data-led decision-making to keep products aligned with legal and policy requirements while still creating value for customers. In a fast-changing digital environment, the team works proactively to manage conduct risk through practical, scalable solutions.

This role is for an experienced Information Officer who will own the local privacy and data protection compliance agenda, including the design and delivery of the privacy programme.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the formally registered Information Officer in South Africa with the Information Regulator.
  • Set up and guide a local privacy team, while working closely with the global Data Protection Officer.
  • Develop the full governance model for personal data handling so the organisation meets South African and European privacy requirements.
  • Assess new products and AI-driven tools in depth to confirm they are fair, transparent, and secure.
  • Create and maintain detailed data-flow maps across systems and processes.
  • Oversee data retention and disposal controls, including automated deletion processes when information is no longer needed.
  • Act as the primary contact for audits, reporting, and regulatory or internal inquiries.
  • Work with engineering teams to embed privacy capabilities directly into applications and systems.
  • Manage customer requests to access, update, or remove personal information.
  • Review security controls regularly to help guard against cyber threats and data breaches.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience in compliance, privacy, risk, legal, or audit roles.
  • Strong knowledge of privacy and regulatory frameworks, including POPIA, FICA, NCA, CPA, GDPR, and the Financial Sector Regulation Act.
  • Proven ability to advise on privacy risk and challenge business decisions constructively across meetings and stakeholder forums.
  • Interest in expanding expertise into adjacent areas such as broader data governance and AI governance.
  • Good understanding of how compliance risk connects with business risk.
  • Practical, solution-focused approach to resolving complex privacy and data protection issues.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Strong judgement and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to give clear, concise, and timely guidance in ambiguous situations.
  • Background in leading compliance programmes for consumer-facing products.
  • Preferred: experience in large banks or fast-growing fintech companies.
  • Preferred: experience operating in a complex international environment.
  • Preferred: professional certifications such as CIPP/E, CIPP/A, or membership with the Compliance Institute Southern Africa (CISA).
