Job description
Role overview
Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a full-time Information Governance Officer for a fixed two-year period. This position sits within an experienced Information Governance team and plays an important part in supporting the Head of Data Protection, who also serves as the DPO, as well as the Trust-wide information governance programme.
What the role involves
The Information Governance Officer will help the Trust meet its information governance obligations and maintain compliance. The postholder will provide practical data protection advice, promote sound governance and security practices across the organisation, and offer consultancy input for projects. The role also includes supporting training delivery, carrying out audits, and assisting with Freedom of Information requests.
Compliance and standards
You will advise the organisation on meeting relevant legal and regulatory requirements, including the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulation 2016 (GDPR). The role also contributes to monitoring and control activities linked to national frameworks such as the annual Data Security and Protection Toolkit (DSPT), CQC standards, the National Data Guardian Standards, the Caldicott Principles, and NHS Codes of Practice.
Responsibilities and scope
This is a flexible role where duties may evolve as the Trust’s needs change. The exact tasks may be adjusted in discussion with the postholder and line manager, and you will be expected to carry out any reasonable requirement that supports the service.
Equality, diversity and flexible working
The Trust actively promotes inclusion and welcomes applicants from all backgrounds. Applications are especially encouraged from under-represented groups, and the organisation also values candidates with lived experience relevant to the role or service area. Flexible working options may be considered, including term-time working, part-time hours, compressed hours, and flexi-time.
Wellbeing
Staff wellbeing is a priority, and a range of resources and support is available to help employees maintain health and balance inside and outside work.
