Job description

Position Overview

In this role, you will contribute to building the infrastructure for the RACOON project within the University Medicine network (NUM initiative) and support scientific as well as technical initiatives at the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology. The position focuses on the area of Artificial Intelligence and Radiological Informatics, with the goal of identifying how AI can improve medical diagnosis and patient care. Alongside developing predictive models, the role also involves implementing AI-enabled infrastructure.

Employment Terms

The appointment is governed by the German Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz (WissZeitVG, §2 para. 2) and is initially limited until the project ends on 30.06.2030. The employment contract will be concluded with Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. Compensation is based on TV-L pay grade 13, with credit given for prior relevant experience according to the applicable collective agreement rules.

Responsibilities

You will support infrastructure development, scientific work, and coordination activities across the radiology environment and the RACOON network.

  • Help build and maintain the RACOON project infrastructure.
  • Administer technical systems and manage data within the Institute for Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology.
  • Create database queries, statistics, analyses, and data models in line with medical standards such as DICOM, HL7, and FHIR.
  • Implement scientific projects within the RACOON network.
  • Contribute to the development and deployment of AI-based models.
  • Prepare scientific publications.
  • Coordinate partial projects in the field of radiology.
  • Communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including IT, research IT, the data integration center, third-party funders, clinical management, and cooperation partners.

Requirements

  • Completed university degree (MSc or Diploma) in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in scientific work and/or project management, along with interest in developing the other area further.
  • Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with artificial intelligence methods, especially machine learning, deep neural networks, and generative AI.
  • Practical programming experience, including Python, scikit-learn, and PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Keras.
  • Solid knowledge and experience in system administration and operating systems, particularly Windows and Linux.
  • Strong initiative, commitment, and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Structured, independent working style and openness to cooperative work in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills and very good written and spoken German and English.
