Role overview
An opportunity is available for an Industrial Hygiene Technician to join a team in Saudi Arabia. In this role, you will help put industrial hygiene controls into practice and keep them running effectively so the workplace remains safe and healthy for employees.
Education and certification
- A diploma in Environmental Science, Natural Science, Chemistry Science, or a higher qualification is required.
- An OHST (Occupational Hygiene and Safety Technician) certification, or an equivalent credential, is needed.
- You should either already know OSHA and similar industrial hygiene standards, or be able to learn them quickly.
Experience
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in an industrial hygiene role within a petrochemical, refining, fertilizer, or chemical environment is required.
Additional requirements
- You should be able to quickly learn how to identify hazards, assess PPE, carry out job safety analyses, and support industrial hygiene programs.
- The role calls for a customer-oriented and results-focused approach, with the ability to work smoothly with both company staff and contractors at different levels across the facility.
- Strong self-drive and confidence are important for success in this position.
- Good spoken and written communication skills, along with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, are expected.
Technical skills and abilities
- You should know how to use, or be able to quickly learn to use, direct-reading instruments such as sound level meters, sampling pumps, multi-gas monitors, lux meters, and photo-ionization detectors (PIDs).
- The position requires the ability to perform both qualitative and quantitative hazard assessments.
- You must be able to work independently as well as contribute effectively in a team setting.
Key duties
- Assist the Industrial Hygienist in carrying out the industrial hygiene program.
- Perform workplace hygiene surveys, including heat stress, noise, chemical exposure, lighting, and ergonomic assessments.
- Make sure industrial hygiene instruments remain calibrated and functional, while keeping track of related sampling supplies.
- Prepare sampling media and arrange dispatch of samples to outside laboratories for analysis.
- Support the respiratory protection program, including operating the breathing air compressor.
- Carry out respirator fit testing and maintain the required records.
- Inspect respirators and perform function checks.
- Help maintain and calibrate multi-gas detectors.
- Provide daily industrial hygiene assistance to plant employees and contractors, including support for PPE assessments, job safety analyses, and workplace hazard reviews.
- Take part in compliance audits and conduct formal audits of the industrial hygiene program.
