Role Overview
This position involves teaching English to students in both the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The ideal candidate should have solid knowledge of the IB framework, along with an understanding of inquiry-led, student-focused teaching practices.
Academic and Curriculum Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver interesting, challenging English lessons that meet MYP and DP learning goals.
- Create unit plans, lesson plans, and assessments that follow IB expectations.
- Evaluate student work using MYP/DP assessment criteria and keep accurate records of formative and summative evaluations.
- Help students improve through regular feedback, reflection-based activities, and portfolio development.
- Adapt teaching approaches to support learners with different needs through differentiated instruction and remedial support.
Collaboration and Communication
- Take part in team planning sessions and school-wide activities such as assemblies, open houses, and parent-teacher meetings.
- Maintain regular communication with parents, counselors, and coordinators about student progress.
- Serve as a mentor or supervisor for the Extended Essay in DP or the Community Project in MYP, where needed.
Professional Expectations
- Stay involved in professional learning and IB training, and keep current with IB policies and documentation.
- Present yourself professionally in appearance, conduct, and communication, while setting a strong ethical example for students.
- Work well with others, show respect, and handle disagreements in a constructive manner.
Administrative and Co-curricular Duties
- Contribute beyond classroom teaching by supporting clubs, school teams, supervision duties, and events.
- Submit grades, reports, and progress comments on time according to academic schedules.
- Use school technology systems such as ManageBac, PowerSchool, Gradebook, and related tools effectively.
- Prepare recommendation letters for students when required.
Qualifications
The school is looking for a candidate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English Literature or a closely related discipline. IB MYP/DP English training is preferred. Applicants should have at least 3 years of teaching experience in an IB school, a strong grasp of IB philosophy and assessment practices, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and the ability to integrate technology into teaching.
