Role overview
YEN.com.gh is looking for an experienced, detail-focused Editor to strengthen its Human Interest desk. The person in this role will be expected to deliver accurate, engaging, and timely stories that match the publication’s editorial standards and resonate with its audience. Success in this position depends on strong news judgment, creativity, and the ability to thrive in a fast-moving digital newsroom.
Key responsibilities
- Handle and publish at least six stories each day while following the outlet’s editorial rules, style guide, and platform policies across Facebook, Google, and other distribution channels. As part of the weekly output, produce at least five exclusive stories based on comments.
- Check the accuracy of facts, sources, and story details before anything goes live in order to protect editorial quality and trust.
- Write strong, search-optimized headlines and make sure each story includes suitable, high-quality visuals such as images and embeds.
- Build picture-post creatives using the approved Canva templates and publish both link posts and picture posts on the Facebook page every day.
- Keep track of breaking news, trending topics, and social media conversations so fresh story ideas can be identified and pitched on a daily basis.
- Join team discussions, editorial planning sessions, and performance review meetings with the Head of Department.
- Work at least one weekend shift per month on the Saturday/Sunday rotation schedule.
Working schedule
The standard schedule runs from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Although the role is remote, some flexibility may be needed during special events or urgent breaking-news coverage.

Requirements
- A university degree in journalism, media studies, or a closely related discipline.
- Two to three years of experience in human interest reporting or a similar editorial role.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English, with multiple assessments required to demonstrate proficiency.
- Previous experience working in digital and social media environments.
- A suitable laptop or desktop computer.
- Stable and dependable internet access.
