Role Overview
This remote U.S.-based contract role is for an HR Generalist focused on benefits administration and leave of absence case management. The position supports employees with health and welfare benefits, disability-related matters, accommodations, and various leave requests while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and company requirements.
A background in banking and fintech is required for this opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the main contact for employee questions related to medical, dental, vision, life, retirement, COBRA, wellness, and other voluntary benefit programs.
- Handle benefit enrollments, updates tied to life events, and resolution of issues raised with carriers and vendors.
- Oversee leave and accommodation cases, including FMLA, ADA, short-term disability, long-term disability, parental leave, military leave, personal leave, and state-specific leave programs.
- Work closely with employees, managers, payroll, legal, and outside administrators throughout the leave lifecycle.
- Keep employee records accurate and ensure all activities align with applicable laws and internal policies.
- Support open enrollment campaigns and help educate employees on available benefits.
- Create and refresh SOPs, process guides, manager resources, and employee-facing FAQs.
- Train and transfer knowledge to internal HR colleagues on benefits and leave administration workflows.
Required Experience and Knowledge
- At least 5 years of HR experience.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in benefits administration and/or leave of absence operations.
- Strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, short-term and long-term disability, COBRA, ERISA, HIPAA, and multi-state leave regulations.
- Experience coordinating with third-party leave administrators and benefit vendors.
- Familiarity with HRIS platforms such as Workday, Paycom, or similar systems.
- Strong communication, issue resolution, and employee relations capabilities.
Preferred Background
- Experience supporting employees who are remote or spread across multiple locations.
- Prior work in financial services, fintech, banking, or other regulated industries.
- Ability to build HR documentation, training content, and process improvements.
- Comfortable coaching and training other HR team members on benefits and leave processes.
