Job description

Role overview

Symetra is hiring an HR Business Partner to join its Talent Management team and support a designated business area remotely within the United States. The role is focused on acting as a strategic HR advisor, helping shape organizational decisions, improving performance, and guiding employee relations matters. You will collaborate with other HR specialists when needed to demonstrate the full value of the HR function.

Key responsibilities

In this position, you will partner with one internal group across a broad set of people and organizational topics. That includes performance improvement, organizational structure, talent evaluation, employee relations, change support, leadership coaching, and people analytics.

You will work with managers and employees to strengthen relationships, raise engagement, improve retention, and reduce risk. The role also requires active participation in the supported business area by offering both strategic advice and hands-on support.

Another part of the job is helping design and roll out HR priorities by working with Talent Development, Talent Acquisition, Operations, Total Rewards, and DE&I. You may also deliver instructor-led training for leaders and employees when needed.

Compensation and benefits

The salary range for this role is $117,000 to $195,100 per year, with eligibility for an annual bonus program.

Symetra offers flexible full-time or hybrid telecommuting arrangements, a 401(k) plan with immediate vesting and company match up to 6%, paid vacation and sick leave, flex days, and ten paid holidays. The company also supports charitable giving through matching contributions.

Who Symetra is looking for

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, while a bachelor's degree or an equivalent mix of education and experience is preferred. This role calls for 8+ years of cumulative HR experience, including prior work as an HR Business Partner or HR Manager.

Experience in highly regulated industries is an advantage, as is exposure to supporting technical teams. Professional certification such as PHR, SPHR, or SHRM-CP is preferred.

Strong HR business knowledge, MS Office proficiency, excellent written and verbal communication, presentation confidence, strong attention to detail, the ability to juggle multiple priorities, adaptability, confidentiality, team orientation, and a customer-service mindset are all important. Comfort with AI tools and their enterprise use is also valued. Periodic travel may be required.

Additional requirements and notices

Because of the nature of the work, Human Resources employees cannot have a family relationship with any current Symetra employee.

Symetra does not provide employer work visa sponsorship or support for this role. Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire and keep that authorization throughout employment.

Remote work standards

As a remote-first employer, Symetra requires employees to maintain an internet connection that meets its standard. The minimum requirement is 100 Mbps download and 20 Mbps upload, consistent with the FCC definition of broadband.

Acceptable internet types include fiber, cable, and DSL. Satellite services, cellular broadband, wireless hotspot-based connections, and wired dial-up are not allowed.

Applicants will be asked to test their internet speed during the hiring process and confirm that their connection meets the requirement.

Interview and identity verification

After the initial phone screen, candidates must appear on video for all interviews. Symetra also uses verification steps during the hiring process to confirm candidate identity and prevent fraud.

Failure to follow the verification process may lead to removal from consideration, withdrawal of an offer, or termination of employment if fraud is later discovered.
