Role overview
This is a long-term contract opportunity for an experienced HR Business Partner to support senior leaders in Menlo Park, California. The role sits within a mission-focused nonprofit setting and calls for a strategic HR advisor who can guide workforce decisions, employee and labor relations, and organizational effectiveness.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in hospital environments, practical judgment in complex workplace situations, and the ability to turn people analytics into recommendations leaders can act on.
What you will do
- Work closely with executive and senior leaders to build people strategies that align with operational priorities and improve workforce performance.
- Advise on delicate employee and labor relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary actions, conflict resolution, grievance handling, and union-related issues.
- Support managers with performance management practices and help ensure HR policies and employment standards are applied consistently and fairly.
- Partner with recruiting, compensation, learning, and analytics teams to deliver integrated solutions for business and talent needs.
- Drive change management work connected to organizational priorities, including workforce impact planning and internal communications.
- Analyze workforce trends, internal data, and market benchmarks to spot patterns, support decisions, and strengthen HR reporting.
- Help maintain compliance with California employment laws and relevant federal labor and employment rules.
- Assist with HR administration and process improvements, including effective use of HR systems such as Workday where relevant.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- At least 7 years of progressive experience in human resources, HR business partnering, or a related business operations function.
- Direct experience in hospital settings and labor relations is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of California employment law, employee relations, and union contract interpretation.
- Experience conducting workplace investigations and handling complex employee matters, including arbitration or grievance processes.
- Ability to advise senior leaders in a consultative manner on workforce and organizational topics.
- Solid skills in performance management, HR policy administration, and using workforce data for decision-making.
- HR certification is considered an advantage.
