Job description
About Ashby and People Operations
Ashby is a rapidly growing company focused on developing next-generation recruiting software. Our People Operations team supports employees through creating programs, policies, and services that foster a productive and inclusive workplace, aligned with our core Operating Principles. We strive for a creative, tailored approach to enhance teamwork and build a people-centric culture supporting individual and company growth.
Position Overview
We seek an experienced HR Business Partner dedicated to partnering with the Engineering, Product, and Design (EPD) divisions during this critical phase of company growth. This role involves translating Ashby's strategic business objectives into aligned people strategies. You will provide tactical and strategic support, maintaining smooth People Operations processes while advising leadership on talent development, high-performance culture cultivation, and compensation fairness. The position is dynamic, balancing strategic initiatives with hands-on operational responsibilities and contributing to an impactful PeopleOps team shaping an exceptional workplace culture worldwide.
Key Responsibilities and Role Requirements
- Partner effectively with EPD leaders to address scaling challenges unique to technical teams in a high-growth setting.
- Establish trust and credibility as a strategic advisor, proactively identifying needs and delivering tailored HR solutions.
- Leverage comprehensive knowledge in People Operations including compensation, benefits, performance management, employee relations, and regulatory compliance.
- Translate broad business goals into precise, actionable HR strategies.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication, facilitating discussions and coaching across all organizational levels.
- Design and scale competitive compensation structures informed by market data for a global workforce.
- Drive performance management initiatives, coaching managers through challenging conversations and creating scalable frameworks reflecting company culture.
- Develop and expand training programs aimed at management and general staff development.
- Provide guidance in complex employee relations and risk management, conducting mediations and investigations as necessary, ensuring compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Approximately 8 years of HR/People Operations experience supporting EPD teams through rapid growth and organizational change.
- Strong communication expertise with emphasis on coaching, facilitating, and policy crafting.
- Business savvy with balanced decision-making focused on outcomes, employee welfare, compliance, and scalability.
- Adaptable and flexible, avoiding rigid adherence to outdated procedures, thriving in a fast-moving environment.
- Adept at working autonomously and collaboratively within a diverse, globally distributed team.
- Proficient with US employment laws, compensation frameworks, and learning & development strategies.
- Detail-oriented with a continuous improvement mindset focused on refining HR processes and team effectiveness.
- Experienced in managing sensitive employee relations and utilizing HRIS and compensation management technologies.
Bonus Qualifications
- Advanced qualifications in HR, business, or organizational development.
- Professional HR certifications such as PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP.
- Experience working with international and asynchronous teams.
Non-ideal Fit Indicators
- Preference for importing pre-existing HR programs without tailoring to Ashby's unique culture.
- Requirement for constant direction and discomfort with autonomous work.
- Aversion to conducting difficult conversations at all organizational levels.
- Preference for clearly defined, structured tasks rather than ambiguous, evolving challenges.
- Desire to partner with only one team rather than across multiple teams.
Interview Process
- Initial recruiter screening by Talent Acquisition (30 minutes).
- Interview with People Operations Team (45 minutes).
- Take-home assignment (1 hour).
- Interview with VP of People & Talent (45 minutes).
- Virtual onsite interviews spanning 2 to 3 hours.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range from $160,000 to $220,000 annually plus equity.
- 10-year window to exercise stock options, reducing pressure to purchase immediately.
- Unlimited paid time off, with four weeks recommended annually.
- Twelve weeks fully paid family leave in the US; plans to expand internationally.
- Generous budgets for equipment, software, and office furniture.
- Monthly $100 education allowance with additional options like conferences upon manager approval.
- Comprehensive health insurance with full premium coverage for employees and their dependents in the US.
Diversity and Inclusion Commitment
Ashby is an equal opportunity employer valuing diversity in all aspects including race, gender, religion, age, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, and more. We aim to foster an inclusive environment by welcoming candidates from varied backgrounds and experiences.
