Role summary
The Housekeeping Attendant is responsible for keeping guest and colleague spaces clean, orderly, and maintained to the company’s standards and the directions of the Housekeeping Management Team. The role supports a consistently high level of guest satisfaction through careful housekeeping service and attention to detail.
Key responsibilities
- Arrive on time for each shift and wear the correct uniform and name badge.
- Join the start-of-shift briefing held in the morning or evening.
- Collect the floor/section key and room report from the housekeeping office, and return them at the end of the shift after signing them back in.
- Clean assigned guestrooms thoroughly, arrange the room properly, and replenish linens and guest amenities.
- Organize guest belongings carefully while servicing bedrooms and bathrooms so hotel standards are maintained.
- Check furniture, fixtures, and fittings, and report any damage to the supervisor for follow-up action.
- Notify the order taker or floor supervisor about any missing or broken items found in the room.
- Respond to guest questions and requests in a polite and timely manner.
- Coordinate with valet services for laundry, dry cleaning, or pressing of guest clothing.
- Carry out duties in a safe and environmentally responsible way that protects guests, colleagues, and the environment.
- Perform scheduled special cleaning tasks in guest rooms according to daily, weekly, monthly, and occupancy-based plans.
- Clean stairways, corridors, windows, and pantry areas on assigned floors when required.
- Clean equipment properly and return it to the correct storage location; keep pantries neat and organized.
- Pay close attention to high-traffic areas such as guest elevators, inside and outside areas, and ashtrays.
- Refill trolleys and pantries for the following day.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in all housekeeping work areas.
- Take part actively in training sessions arranged by the hotel and department.
- Immediately report maintenance problems and do not release rooms with unresolved faults.
- Support preventive maintenance activities when required.
- Ensure no one enters guest rooms without supervisor approval.
- Report any suspicious activity without delay.
- Report damage or missing property promptly.
- Never hand over master keys to any other team member.
- Be prepared to take on duties beyond guest rooms, including laundry/runner tasks and public area assignments.
Experience and skills
The role requires practical housekeeping knowledge, the ability to stay effective in a busy and pressure-filled environment, and strong communication with team members. Candidates should be able to anticipate guest needs, remain professional and welcoming, and manage time and tasks efficiently. Prior experience of at least two years as a room attendant, either in a hotel or in a casual staff capacity, is preferred.
