Job description

About the role

Shannex is looking for a Housekeeper to join its Parkland West Bedford community in Bedford, Nova Scotia. The organization values people who are compassionate, honest, professional, and committed to safety, and it focuses on creating meaningful connections that support better living for residents.

Compensation and benefits

The role offers an approximate hourly pay range of $16.83 to $18.54. Additional benefits include comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage, an Employee and Family Assistance Program available immediately for eligible team members (0.4 FTE and above), life and travel insurance, free virtual healthcare access 24/7 through the group health plan, RRSP participation with 5% employer matching, vacation accrual starting immediately, free on-site parking, and access to discounts and perks through the WorkPerks program. Team members also receive training and continuing education support through the Centre of Excellence, along with opportunities to contribute to innovation, continuous improvement, recognition, and rewards for service excellence and safety.

What you will do

You will be responsible for keeping shared spaces and resident areas clean, safe, and well maintained. This includes lobbies, hallways, stairwells, kitchens, bathrooms, and other assigned common areas. You will also handle refuse collection from resident rooms, complete routine documentation, carry out audits and inspections when needed, support resident laundry services on request, maintain housekeeping carts, monitor supply levels, and communicate supply needs to the supervisor. A key part of the role is working safely at all times by following procedures, using protective equipment, identifying hazards, and supporting a strong safety culture. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

What we are looking for

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry. You should bring a strong sense of initiative, work efficiently with a friendly and service-oriented approach, and communicate respectfully with both internal and external customers. Knowledge of infection prevention and control is important, along with the ability to use equipment such as an auto scrubber, floor buffer, and vacuum. Experience in a seniors' living setting is considered an asset. You must be able to work independently, use cleaning chemicals and equipment safely, and provide a clear criminal record check on hire. A completed Dementia: Understanding the Journey course is an asset, and valid First Aid and CPR certification may be required where applicable. Successful candidates must also obtain a clear Criminal Record Check and, where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check before appointment.
