Job description
Position Overview
This role involves maintaining cleanliness and operational upkeep within a hotel setting. Duties include both janitorial and maintenance tasks to ensure the hotel's public and back-of-house areas meet established standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of all public spaces to ensure cleanliness standards are upheld and report any issues to supervisors.
- Provide assistance to room attendants with heavy lifting such as mattresses and soiled linens; deliver linens and necessary supplies to room attendants and transport soiled linens to laundry facilities.
- Perform carpet shampooing and apply floor stripping and waxing services throughout the hotel premises.
- Maintain cleanliness of designated areas including lobby, public restrooms, various public areas, and staff-only zones.
- Sweep and mop floors in public locations consistently.
- Collect and dispose of trash from throughout the hotel, including room attendants' carts, vending areas, room service stations, offices, and restrooms.
- Respond swiftly and politely to guest requests, including delivering housekeeping supplies such as linens and roll-a-ways, ensuring guest satisfaction through prompt follow-ups.
- Set up and dismantle meeting rooms and event spaces as required.
- Conduct security checks across three buildings to maintain safe premises.
- Present a professional appearance at all times, adhering to company dress standards.
- Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures.
- Troubleshoot and carry out minor repairs including sound system and audio-visual setups.
- Perform minor maintenance work on heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, such as PTAC units.
- Complete paint repairs, drywall patching, install vinyl wall coverings, vinyl flooring, and ceramic tiles where possible; these skills are considered assets.
- Troubleshoot and address minor plumbing system repairs.
- Operate small hand and power tools and electrical equipment safely and effectively.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by supervisors or management.
Health and Safety
- Comply with safe work procedures outlined in department policies, including correct use of personal protective equipment.
- Understand and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety regulations as per the Health and Safety Act and Ministry of Labor standards.
- Immediately report any injuries or illnesses to supervisors or management.
- Participate actively in the Joint Health and Safety Committee by raising relevant health and safety concerns.
Work Relationships
Internal collaboration involves coordination with the Maintenance Department for repairs, Laundry staff for linen handling, Room Attendants, Food and Beverage Department, and Front Desk personnel. Externally, the role requires providing professional service to hotel guests.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Basic proficiency in reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Prior experience in maintenance work is advantageous.
- Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Valid driver's license along with a clean drivers abstract.
- Adherence to a professional code of conduct.

Compensation and Benefits
The position offers hourly pay of $19.27. Additional benefits include dental care, disability insurance, discounted or complimentary meals, extended health care, life insurance, and vision care.
