Role overview

Sheraton Athlone Hotel, part of the Hodson Bay Group, is hiring a Hotel Day Porter to join its busy on-site team in Athlone and Bigmeadow, County Westmeath, Ireland. The role sits at the heart of hotel operations and involves working closely with multiple departments and the management team to help deliver a seamless, high-quality stay for every guest.

The hotel is seeking someone with a friendly, approachable manner and a genuine commitment to guest satisfaction. A strong sense of pride in personal work standards and a desire to create memorable experiences for visitors are important in this position.

Eligibility and availability

Because of liquor licensing regulations, only applicants aged 18 or above can be considered. The role requires complete flexibility across weekdays and weekends, including both day and evening shifts.

Key responsibilities

• Handle guest requests quickly and professionally, with a strong focus on service quality.
• Support room service operations and assist with moving guest luggage.
• Prepare meeting rooms and reset them as needed.
• Carry out routine security checks and take part in fire and accident practice drills.
• Learn the hotel’s layout, nearby surroundings, and local facilities.
• Follow all safety procedures and ensure equipment and materials remain in safe working condition.
• Record and respond appropriately to incidents involving accidents, fire, loss, or damage.
• Represent the hotel’s guest service standards and help promote its services.
• Maintain excellent standards of hygiene, presentation, and professional conduct at all times.

Required profile

Applicants should be fully available on weekdays and weekends. Previous experience in a similar position for at least one year is highly preferred. Strong customer service ability, clear communication, self-direction, and the confidence to work independently are important. Familiarity with AV equipment is an advantage. The role also calls for resilience, motivation, and the ability to stay effective under pressure.

This is a physically demanding job, so stamina and the ability to move heavy equipment are necessary. Good written and spoken English is essential.
