Job description
Role overview
Yang’s Fried Chicken in Christchurch is expanding through its Riccarton outlet, night markets, events, and plans for a second location. The business is seeking dependable hospitality all-rounders who are comfortable moving between different shifts and sites. This is a practical, hands-on position with a pathway into a Shift Lead role for strong performers.
Key duties
- Cook fried chicken, burgers, meals, sides, thickshakes, and desserts.
- Take customer orders and process payments through the POS system.
- Prepare and pack orders for the store, Uber Eats, and DoorDash.
- Replenish stock while keeping food standards and cleanliness in good order.
- Handle opening and closing tasks, including cash-related procedures.
- Support the team during markets, catering assignments, and events.
- Once trained, help guide and coordinate other staff members.
What the employer is seeking
- A trustworthy and punctual person who stays effective in busy, high-pressure settings.
- Availability that can cover weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
- Someone prepared to cook, clean, serve customers, and learn every station in the operation.
- Good communication skills and a constructive, team-focused attitude.
- Access to dependable transport, particularly for closing duties and market shifts.
- Previous hospitality, customer service, or leadership experience is an advantage but not required.
Shift lead development
Selected team members may be trained to take charge of shifts, assign tasks, uphold food and service standards, oversee cash handling and closing routines, manage routine problems, and complete handovers at the end of a shift. Progression depends on proven performance and is not guaranteed automatically.
Pay details
- Crew and training shifts begin at NZD 23.95 per hour.
- Once certified, Shift Leads start at NZD 26 per hour.
- Additional pay progression may be available for reliability, flexibility, leadership, and the ability to operate shifts independently.
Application notes
Applicants should provide their CV, exact weekly availability, preferred hours or shifts, whether they can work evenings, weekends, and closing shifts, details of transport arrangements, and any visa or work-hour limitations. Candidates who are shortlisted will be invited to attend an interview and a paid trial shift.
